This book was released on 2008-07-30 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings contain the papers selected for presentation at the 23rd Inter- tional Information Security Conference (SEC 2008), co-located with IFIP World Computer Congress (WCC 2008), September 8–10, 2008 in Milan, Italy. In - sponse to the call for papers, 143 papers were submitted to the conference. All - pers were evaluated on the basis of their signi?cance, novelty, and technical quality, and reviewed by at least three members of the program committee. Reviewing was blind meaning that the authors were not told which committee members reviewed which papers. The program committee meeting was held electronically, holding - tensive discussion over a period of three weeks. Of the papers submitted, 42 full papers and 11 short papers were selected for presentation at the conference. A conference like this just does not happen; it depends on the volunteer efforts of a host of individuals. There is a long list of people who volunteered their time and energy to put together the conference and who deserve acknowledgment. We thank all members of the program committee and the external reviewers for their hard work in the paper evaluation. Due to the large number of submissions, p- gram committee members were required to complete their reviews in a short time frame. We are especially thankful to them for the commitment they showed with their active participation in the electronic discussion.

Book Synopsis Communications and Multimedia Security by : Bart De Decker
Download or read book Communications and Multimedia Security written by Bart De Decker and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-05-29 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade, we have witnessed a growing dependency on information technologyresultingina wide rangeofnew opportunities. Clearly, ithas become almost impossible to imagine life without a personal computer or laptop, or without a cell phone. Social network sites (SNS) are competing with face-- face encounters and may even oust them. Most SNS-adepts have hundreds of “friends”, happily sharing pictures and pro?les and endless chitchat. We are on the threshold of the Internet of Things, where every object will have its RFID-tag. This will not only e?ect companies, who will be able to optimize their production and delivery processes, but also end users, who will be able to enjoy many new applications, ranging from smart shopping, and smart fridges to geo-localized services. In the near future, elderly people will be able to stay longer at home due to clever health monitoring systems. The sky seems to be the limit! However, we have also seen the other side of the coin: viruses, Trojan horses, breaches of privacy, identity theft, and other security threats. Our real and virtual worlds are becoming increasingly vulnerable to attack. In order to encouragesecurity researchby both academia and industry and to stimulate the dissemination of results, conferences need to be organized. With the 11th edition of the joint IFIP TC-6 TC-11 Conference on C- munications and Multimedia Security (CMS 2010), the organizers resumed the tradition of previous CMS conferences after a three-year recess.

Book Synopsis Innovations and Approaches for Resilient and Adaptive Systems by : De Florio, Vincenzo
Download or read book Innovations and Approaches for Resilient and Adaptive Systems written by De Florio, Vincenzo and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2012-09-30 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our society continues to depend upon systems that are built in a way that they end up being inflexible and intolerant to change. Therefore there is an urgent need to investigate innovations and approaches to the management of adaptive and dependable systems. These studies are usually implemented through design, development, and the evaluation of techniques and models to structure computer systems as adaptive systems. Innovations and Approaches for Resilient and Adaptive Systems is a comprehensive collection of knowledge on increasing the notions and models in adaptive and dependable systems. This book aims to enhance the awareness of the role of adaptability and resilience in system environments for researchers, practitioners, educators, and professionals alike.
