Book Synopsis Words Like Daggers by : Kirilka Stavreva
Download or read book Words Like Daggers written by Kirilka Stavreva and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dramatic and documentary representations of aggressive and garrulous women, while often casting such women as reckless and ultimately unsuccessful usurpers of cultural authority, simultaneously highlight, in contending narrative lines, their effective manipulation and even subversion of social and gender hierarchies. Words Like Daggers explores the scolding invectives, malevolent curses, and ecstatic prophesies of early modern women as attested in legal documents, letters, self-narratives, popular pamphlets, ballads, and dramas of the era. By examining the framing and performance of such violent female speech between the 1590s and the 1660s, Kirilka Stavreva dismantles the myth of the silent and obedient women who allegedly populated early modern England. Blending gender theory with detailed historical analysis, Words Like Daggers highlights the capacity of women's language to shape gender and social relationships in the early modern era. Stavreva not only reconstructs the speech acts of individual contentious women but also examines the powerful performative potential of women's violent speech, revealing how the stage, arguably the most influential cultural institution of the Renaissance, orchestrated and aestheticized women's fighting words and, in so doing, showcased and augmented their cultural significance.

Features: * The extent of synthesis at a range of key levels * The depth of new perspectives on forest processes and ecological patterns in one of the world's truly great forests - the montane ash forests * The breadth of past and very current research that is both pure and applied * The range of key topics and how they are inter-twined - wildfires, biodiversity conservation, logging, conservation management, climate change and basic forest ecology and management
Book Synopsis A Handbook of Process Tracing Methods by : Michael Schulte-Mecklenbeck
Download or read book A Handbook of Process Tracing Methods written by Michael Schulte-Mecklenbeck and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-10 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Handbook of Process Tracing Methods demonstrates how to better understand decision outcomes by studying decision processes, through the introduction of a number of exciting techniques. Decades of research have identified numerous idiosyncrasies in human decision behavior, but some of the most recent advances in the scientific study of decision making involve the development of sophisticated methods for understanding decision process—known as process tracing. In this volume, leading experts discuss the application of these methods and focus on the best practices for using some of the more popular techniques, discussing how to incorporate them into formal decision models. This edition has been expanded and thoroughly updated throughout, and now includes new chapters on mouse tracking, protocol analysis, neurocognitive methods, the measurement of valuation, as well as an overview of important software packages. The volume not only surveys cutting-edge research to illustrate the great variety in process tracing techniques, but also serves as a tutorial for how the novice researcher might implement these methods. A Handbook of Process Tracing Methods will be an essential read for all students and researchers of decision making.

This book was released on 2000-09-15 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together revised versions of a selection of papers presented at the Second International Conference on “Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing” (RANLP’97) held in Tzigov Chark, Bulgaria, September 1997. The aim of the conference was to give researchers the opportunity to present new results in Natural Language Processing (NLP) based both on traditional and modern theories and approaches. The best papers from the proceedings were selected for this volume, in the hope that they reflect the most significant and promising trends (and successful results) in NLP. The contributions have been grouped according to the following topics: tagging, lexical issues and parsing, word sense disambiguation and anaphora resolution, semantics, generation, machine translation, and categorisation and applications. The volume contains an extensive index.
