The weekly issues of the Maryland Gazette, and contemporary pamphlets and broadsides from the press Of Jonas Green. Valuable contemporary manuscript material will be found in the Hall of Records, Annapolis, made more readily available by the recent publication by it of the Calendar of the Black Books; and also in the special collections known as the Calvert Papers, the Gilmor Papers, and the Bordley Papers in the Maryland Historical Society. Charles Albro Barker in his recent The Background of the Revolution in Maryland, 1940, gives the most comprehensive picture of the events of this period which has yet been written. Dr. Elizabeth Merritt is responsible for the comprehensive index of this volume. Mrs. Vivian E. Barnes of the staff of the Maryland Historical Society has been most helpful in locating the material to be found in the Appendix of this volume and in preparing the volume itself for the press. The volume of the Archives to follow will continue the Court Series, and will contain the Proceedings of the County Court of Charles County, I666 1674.
