Häufig sind die Äußerungen zur Folgegeneration mit negativen Meinungen behaftet, ganz nach dem Motto „Früher war alles besser“. Die Lebensphase der Adoleszenz kann mit vielen positiven und spannenden Erfahrungen verbunden sein. In jedem Fall bringt sie jedoch Herausforderungen mit sich, die in dieser Lebensphase zu durchlaufen sind. Nicht jedes Individuum bewältigt diese Aufgaben gleichermaßen gut. Während der Adoleszenz setzen sich Jugendliche einerseits mit ökologischen und sozialen Gegebenheiten und Veränderungen in Form von neuen Umweltbedingungen, wie neuen Freundesgruppen, neuen Mitschüler*innen und Lehrer*innen sowie der schrittweisen Ablösung von den Eltern als hauptsächliche Bezugspersonen, auseinander. Andererseits sind während dieser Phase des Lebens auch psychische sowie körperliche Merkmale und Veränderungen zu bewältigen. Nicht jeder Mensch bewältigt die Aufgaben und gestellten Erwartungen gleichermaßen. Einen Großteil ihrer Lebenszeit verbringen die Jugendlichen heutzutage in der Schule. Die Schule ist nicht mehr nur eine Institution des Lernens, sondern ebenso ein Ort an dem neue Freundschaften entstehen können, Freizeitaktivitäten ausgeführt werden können und Raum für eine individuelle Identitätsentwicklung geschaffen werden soll. Doch auch die neuen Möglichkeiten und Entfaltungsspielräume bringen für viele Jugendliche große Herausforderungen mit sich. Das Handlungsfeld der Schulsozialarbeit hat die Aufgabe junge Menschen auf ihrem Weg zum Erwachsenwerden zu unterstützen, ihnen Halt zu geben und in Konfliktsituationen zu intervenieren. Unter dem Thema „Unterstützende Maßnahmen der Adoleszenz in Hinblick auf Probleme der Adoleszenz“ beschäftigt sich die vorliegende Arbeit mit den Bewältigungsaufgaben der Jugend und damit oft einhergehenden Herausforderungen einerseits sowie den Möglichkeiten zur Unterstützung durch die Schulsozialarbeit andererseits. Die zentrale Fragestellung beschäftigt sich mit den Chancen und Grenzen der Schulsozialarbeit. Dabei stellt sich die Frage, inwieweit Soziale Arbeit, die in dem doch eher starren und reglementierenden System Schule stattfindet, diesem unterliegt und was dies für die Handlungsfähigkeit der Sozialarbeiter*innen bedeutet. Daraus stellt sich wiederum die Frage, ob die Sozialarbeit, im Angesicht der ihr gesetzten Grenzen gute Arbeit leisten kann oder in der Schule vorwiegend Exklusionsverwaltung stattfindet.

Given the restricted contact with the world outside of the immigration detention centre, the book juxtaposes forms and processes of technology-mediated communication between institutionalised detention, with those of displacement and settlement. It finds that while there are obstacles to communication in situations of conflict and dislocation, asylum seekers and refugees are able to ‘make do’ with the technology options available to them in ways which were less constrained than in detention settings. The book also outlines how communication practices during the settlement process focus on learning new technologies, and repairing the disconnections with family members resulting from separation and detention.
