Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, innovative texts in mathematics, science, foreign languages, and other fields have achieved dramatic pedagogical gains by abandoning the traditional encyclopedic approach in favor of attempting to teach a short list of core principles in depth. Two well-respected writers and researchers, Bob Frank and Ben Bernanke, have shown that the less-is-more approach affords similar gains in introductory economics. Although recent editions of a few other texts have paid lip service to this new approach, Frank/Bernanke is by far the best thought out and best executed principles text in this mold. Avoiding excessive reliance on formal mathematical derivations, it presents concepts intuitively through examples drawn from familiar contexts. The authors introduce a well-articulated short list of core principles and reinforcing them by illustrating and applying each in numerous contexts. Students are periodically asked to apply these principles to answer related questions, exercises, and problems. The text also encourages students to become Economic Naturalists, people who employ basic economic principles to understand and explain what they observe in the world around them. An economic naturalist understands, for example, that infant safety seats are required in cars but not in airplanes because the marginal cost of space to accommodate these seats is typically zero in cars but often hundreds of dollars in airplanes. Such examples engage student interest while teaching them to see each feature of their economic landscape as the reflection of an implicit or explicit cost-benefit calculation. The Second Edition of Frank/Bernanke follows the successful First Edition with severalpedagogical improvements. Based on reviewer feedback, this edition offers (1) even more streamlined coverage of the cost-benefit approach in the introductory chapter; (2) exercises that are more closely tied to the examples; (3) expanded narrative explanations of important principles, making them more accessible to average students; and (4) expanded coverage of several key topics. The result is a revision that is motivating to students, an effective text for teaching, and an exciting first course in Economics.

Book excerpt: "lthough many millions of dollars are spent each year on introductory economics instruction in American colleg-es and universities, the return on this investment has been disturbingly low. Studies have shown, for example, that several months after having taken a principles of economics course, former students are no better able to answer simple economics questions than others who never even took the course. Most students, it seems, leave our introductory courses without having learned even the most important basic economic principles"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the foreword to Supply Chain Structures, Professor Paul Zipkin notes three global changes that have enabled the recent vast developments in the field of supply chains. Moreover, these changes may be only the beginning and more change is likely in the fast-moving field of supply chain management. These global changes are: the explosive growth of the Internet; the growth in free-market economies with the corresponding political interest in global economic stability; and the emergence of a global managerial culture focused on performance, quality, and service. Professor Zipkin goes on to say "In Supply Chain Structures, the editors Jeannette Song and David Yao have collected a spectrum of approaches to these challenges from some of the leading scholars of supply chains, from both the academic and commercial worlds. Each of the articles offers an interesting and illuminating way to think about the key issues in supply chain management. Some also offer practical techniques to solve important problems. Together they provide an excellent survey of the current state of the art in research and practice."

Book Synopsis More Than a Carpenter by : JOSH. MCDOWELL
Download or read book More Than a Carpenter written by JOSH. MCDOWELL and published by Tyndale House Publishers. This book was released on 2024-08-20 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: He thought Christianity was a sham. Then it changed his life. Skeptic Josh McDowell thought Christians were out of their minds. He ridiculed and insulted them, then decided to combat them with his own thorough research to disprove the claims of Jesus Christ. To his surprise, he discovered that the evidence suggested exactly the opposite--that Jesus, instead of being simply a first-century Hebrew carpenter, truly was the God he claimed to be. Josh went on to write the inspirational work on Christian apologetics, More Than a Carpenter, which has sold over 15 million copies. In this revised and updated edition, with over 15 million copies in print since its original publication, More Than a Carpenter has changed countless lives. Now, in this revised and updated edition, Josh is joined by his son, Sean, as they tackle the questions that today's generation continues to ask: "Can I be spiritual without believing in God?" "How can I make sure that my life counts for something?" "Is it really possible to know anything for sure about God or Jesus?" This edition is an accessible read for seekers and a great evangelism tool.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For courses in microeconomics. Significantly revised and updated with new real-world examples, exercises, and applications, this edition remains the premiere microeconomics text to marry formal theory with robust, thoroughly analysed real-world problems. The text integrates estimated, real-world problems and applications, using a step-by-step approach to demonstrate how microeconomic theory can be applied to solve practical problems and policy issues. Compared to other similar texts, the author also places greater emphasis on using contemporary theories–such as game theory and contract theory–to analyse markets. Book Synopsis Microeconomics, Brief Edition by : Campbell McConnell
Download or read book Microeconomics, Brief Edition written by Campbell McConnell and published by McGraw-Hill/Irwin. This book was released on 2009-02-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: McConnell and Brue’s Microeconomics, Brief Edition comes from the same author team as the market-leading Principles of Microeconomics textbook. It continues to be innovative while teaching students in a clear, unbiased way. Like the 18th edition, Microeconomics, Brief Edition has 3 main goals: help the beginning student master the principles essential for understanding the economizing problem, specific economic issues, and the policy alternatives; help the student understand and apply the economic perspective and reason accurately and objectively about economic matters; and promote a lasting student interest in economics and the economy. Although the Brie Editionf is a derivative of Microeconomics 18e, is not a cut-and-paste book that simply eliminates several chapters of Economics 18e and reorders and renumbers the retained content. Instead, Microeconomics, Brief Edition is a very concise, highly integrated economics textbook that is distinct in purpose, style, and coverage from Microeconomics 18e.
