SELON L'HYPOTHESE SOUS-TENDANT UN TEL CHOIX. LA PERSUASION CONSTITUE LE BUT SOUS-JACENT DE TOUTES NOS INTERACTIONS VERBALES. MAIS, EFFET PERLOCUTOIRE, LA PERSUASION NE PEUT ETRE PRISE EN COMPTE DANS LE CADRE DE LA THEORIE DE L'ILLOCUTOIRE. AUSSI, UNE NOUVELLE THEORIE - LA THEORIE DE LA PERSUASION CONVERSATIONNELLE A-T-ELLE ETE MISE AU POINT. DISTINGUANT UN DISCOURS CENTRE SUR LE CONTEXTE D'UN DISCOURS, PLUS TRADITIONNEL, CENTRE SUR L'ENONCIATEUR, ELLE OPERE UN NOUVEAU MODE DE COMMUNICATION - LE MODE NON CONFLICTUEL, CONCEPTUALISE PAR LE PRINCIPE DE LEGITIMITE IMMANENTE CONSISTANT EN UNE TACITE MISE EN RELIEF DE LA PERTINENCE SITUATIONNELLE. DANS UNE TELLE CONCEPTION, L'ELABORATION EST SAISIE A PARTIR DE LA RECURRENCE DE L'EFFET PRODUIT. LES UNITES DIALOGIQUES PERMETTENT D'OBSERVER UN TEL EFFET OU MIEUX, LA FONCTION INTERACTIONNELLE DE L'ENONCE. MIEUX, CE PRINCIPE SE REVELE GENERALISABLE AU NIVEAU DU DISCOURS INTERACTIF EN TANT QU'UNE CONTRAINTE GENERALE DE NON CONFLICTUALITE: INNE A TOUT PROTAGONISTE, UNE TELLE CONTRAINTE PERMET DE PRENDRE EN COMPTE TOUTES LES PROBLEMATIQUES DE L'ANALYSE DE DISCOURS LAISSEES INEXPLIQUEES PAR LA THEORIE DE L'ILLOCUTOIRE. CE QUI NOUS CONDUIT A METTRE EN CAUSE CETTE DERNIERE THEORIE QUI PRESIDE ACTUELLEMENT TOUTES NOS ANALYSES DE DISCOURS.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Argumentation et Conversation by : Jacques Koeschler
Download or read book Argumentation et Conversation written by Jacques Koeschler and published by FeniXX. This book was released on 1984-01-01T23:00:00+01:00 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Cognitive Pragmatics by : Hans-Jörg Schmid
Download or read book Cognitive Pragmatics written by Hans-Jörg Schmid and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-08-31 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speakers tend to compose their utterances in such a way that the message they want to get across is hardly ever fully encoded by the meanings of the words and the grammar they use. Instead speakers rely on hearers adding conceptual and emotive content while interpreting the contextually appropriate meanings and intentions behind utterances. This insight, which is of course particularly relevant in all kinds of indirect, figurative or humorous talk, lies at the heart of the linguistic discipline of pragmatics. If pragmatics is the study of meaning-in-context, then cognitive pragmatics can be broadly defined as encompassing the study of the cognitive principles and processes involved in the construal of meaning-in-context. While it would seem only natural that pragmatics as such should have addressed such cognitive issues anyway, it has mainly been due to the historical rooting of this discipline in the philosophy of language that psychological aspects have not been in the pragmatic limelight to date. Being part of the 9-volume-series Handbooks of Pragmatics, this volume is the first to systematically survey this terrain from a wide range of perspectives. It collects state-of-the-art contributions by leading experts from the fields of pragmatics, psycholinguistics, cognitive linguistics, clinical linguistics and historical linguistics. The volume is divided into four parts which tackle the following questions: Part I: The cognitive principles of pragmatic competence What are the general cognitive principles underlying pragmatic competence, i.e. the skill to arrive at context-dependent meanings of utterances? What are the cognitive underpinnings of language users' ability to compute or infer intended meanings in the role of hearers and to give hints as to how to decode intended meanings in the role of speakers? Part II: The psychology of pragmatics What are the actual cognitive processes taking place during online construal of meaning-in-context on the basis of encoded messages? How is pragmatic competence acquired in childhood? What are the types, sources and effects of pragmatic disorders, i.e. impairments of pragmatic competence? Part III: The construal of non-explicit and non-literal meaning-in-context What are the cognitive principles and processes involved in the construal of meanings of non-explicit and indirect utterances? How do we process figurative meanings, humour and gestures? Part IV: The emergence of linguistic structures from meaning-in-context What are the repercussions of the (repeated) construal of context-dependent meanings on linguistic structures and the linguistic system? How does the system change under the influence of the construal of meanings in social situations? Reduced series price (print) available! [email protected].

Book Synopsis Dialogue Analysis: Units, relations and strategies beyond the sentence by : Edda Weigand

This book was released on 2011-07-13 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of this volume was discussed at a Round Table of the International Association for Dialogue Analysis (IADA) at the University of Bologna in March 1995. The Round Table was intended to make a scientific contribution in honour of the president's 65th birthday. The topic refers on the one hand to the central problem of 'Dialogue Analysis' which is to discover a new, communicatively functioning unit after having left behind the unit of the sentence which can be considered the unit par excellence of structural linguistics. On the other hand, it includes the manifold units, relations, and strategies, i.e. the specific problems of dialogue analysis.

Book Synopsis Critical Discourse Studies in Context and Cognition by : Christopher Hart
Download or read book Critical Discourse Studies in Context and Cognition written by Christopher Hart and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical Discourse Studies (CDS) is an exciting research enterprise in which scholars are concerned with the discursive reproduction of power and inequality. However, researchers in CDS are increasingly recognising the need to investigate the cognitive dimensions of discourse and context if they want to fully account for any connection between language, legitimisation and social action. This book presents a collection of papers in CDS concerned with various ideological discourses. Analyses are firmly rooted in linguistics and cognition constitutes a major focus of attention. The chapters, which are written by prominent researchers in CDS, come from a broad range of theoretical perspectives spanning pragmatics, cognitive psychology and cognitive linguistics. The book is essential reading for anyone working at the cutting edge of CDS and especially for those wishing to explore the central place that cognition must surely hold in the relationship between discourse and society.

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “A fascinating look at how consumers perceive logos, ads, commercials, brands, and products.”—Time How much do we know about why we buy? What truly influences our decisions in today’s message-cluttered world? In Buyology, Martin Lindstrom presents the astonishing findings from his groundbreaking three-year, seven-million-dollar neuromarketing study—a cutting-edge experiment that peered inside the brains of 2,000 volunteers from all around the world as they encountered various ads, logos, commercials, brands, and products. His startling results shatter much of what we have long believed about what captures our interest—and drives us to buy. Among the questions he explores: • Does sex actually sell? • Does subliminal advertising still surround us? • Can “cool” brands trigger our mating instincts? • Can our other senses—smell, touch, and sound—be aroused when we see a product? Buyology is a fascinating and shocking journey into the mind of today's consumer that will captivate anyone who's been seduced—or turned off—by marketers' relentless attempts to win our loyalty, our money, and our minds.
Book Synopsis Politeness in Language by : Richard J. Watts
Download or read book Politeness in Language written by Richard J. Watts and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-08-22 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this collection of 13 original papers contains an updated introductory section detailing the significance that the original articles published in 1992 have for the further development of research into linguistic politeness into the 21st century. The original articles focus on the phenomenon of politeness in language. They present the most important problems in developing a theory of linguistic politeness, which must deal with the crucial differences between lay notions of politeness in different cultures and the term 'politeness' as a concept within a theory of linguistic politeness. The universal validity of the term itself is called into question, as are models such as those developed by Brown and Levinson, Lakoff, and Leech. New approaches are suggested. In addition to this theoretical discussion, an empirical section presents a number of case studies and research projects in linguistic politeness. These show what has been achieved within current models and what still remains to be done, in particular with reference to cross-cultural studies in politeness and differences between a Western and a non-Western approach to the subject. The publication of this second edition demonstrates that the significance of the collection is just as salient in the first decade of the new millennium as it was at the beginning of the 1990s.
