Book Synopsis The Population of Mexico by : Francisco Alba
Download or read book The Population of Mexico written by Francisco Alba and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a concise, comprehensive overview of Mexico's population, its history, current demographic features, and future growth potential, Alba establishes the bases of Mexico's ongoing population boom, placing it in its social context. He also considers repercussions of past and present demographic trends and evaluates current population policies as set by the Mexican government. Presented in a readily accessible format and highlighted by a generous number of tables and charts available to an English-speaking audience for the first time, Alba's critical data on contributory demographic phenomenaâa sustained high-fertility rate, steadily declining mortality rate, migratory movements, urbanization, and economically active population segmentsâilluminate the basic trends of Mexico's population since the 1910 Revolution. Alba offers the first authoritative account of the population of Mexico, a country that has experienced not only a population explosion, but a simultaneous urban explosion. Combining demographic data with an analysis of future trends in the economy, culture, and social health of Mexican society, The Population of Mexico is not only a landmark achievement in its own right, but also a model for how population explosions will affect the general development of the Third World. Alba believes that family planning as a tool of demographic policy may not have the expected societal results. Its choice is due to reluctance to define population policies and set target levels and rates for demographic variables. Attainment of a demographic objective does not necessarily mean that the only or even the most appropriate tools are demographic. Entry by increasing numbers of women into the work force and participation of all population sectors in the benefits, options, and accomplishments of development can be more effective in reducing birth rates than any measures of inducement or coercion. Family planning should be incorporated into other economic and social programs.

Download or read book La evolución geográfica de la productividad y el empleo written by Elena Ianchovichina and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2024-03-19 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Glosario Del Banco Mundial by : World Bank
Download or read book Glosario Del Banco Mundial written by World Bank and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1996 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of the World Bank has been revised and expanded by the Terminology Unit in the Languages Services Division of the World Bank in collaboration with the English, Spanish, and French Translation Sections. The Glossary is intended to assist the Bank's translators and interpreters, other Bank staff using French and Spanish in their work, and free-lance translator's and interpreters employed by the Bank. For this reason, the Glossary contains not only financial and economic terminology and terms relating to the Bank's procedures and practices, but also terms that frequently occur in Bank documents, and others for which the Bank has a preferred equivalent. Although many of these terms, relating to such fields as agriculture, education, energy, housing, law, technology, and transportation, could be found in other sources, they have been assembled here for ease of reference. A list of acronyms occurring frequently in Bank texts (the terms to which they refer being found in the Glossary) and a list of international, regional, and national organizations will be found at the end of the Glossary.

Book Synopsis Changing Landscapes: An Ecological Perspective by : Izaak S. Zonneveld
Download or read book Changing Landscapes: An Ecological Perspective written by Izaak S. Zonneveld and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Landscape Ecology is an emerging science of gaining momentum over the past few decades in the scientific as well as in the planning-management worlds. Although the field is rooted in biology and geography, the approaches to understanding the ecology of a landscape are highly divers. This hybrid vigor provides power to the field. One can no longer view a local ecosystem or land use in isolation from global areas and time frames. The surrounding landscape mosaic and the flows and movements in a landscape must be considered, especially the linkage between humans requiring resources provided by nature, the constraints on their use as well as the responding landscape.
Book Synopsis Failed Statebuilding by : Oliver Richmond
Download or read book Failed Statebuilding written by Oliver Richmond and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2014-11-25 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Western struggles—and failures—to create functioning states in countries such as Iraq or Afghanistan have inspired questions about whether statebuilding projects are at all viable, or whether they make the lives of their intended beneficiaries better or worse. In this groundbreaking book, Oliver Richmond asks why statebuilding has been so hard to achieve, and argues that a large part of the problem has been Westerners’ failure to understand or engage with what local peoples actually want and need. He interrogates the liberal peacebuilding industry, asking what it assumes, what it is getting wrong, and how it could be more effective.
Book Synopsis Peace Formation and Political Order in Conflict Affected Societies by : Oliver P. Richmond
Download or read book Peace Formation and Political Order in Conflict Affected Societies written by Oliver P. Richmond and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-02-23 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Oliver Richmond explains, there is a level to peacemaking that operates in the realm of dialogue, declarations, symbols and rituals. But after all this pomp and circumstance is where the reality of security, development, politics, economics, identity, and culture figure in; conflict, cooperation, and reconciliation are at their most vivid at the local scale. Thus local peace operations are crucial to maintaining order on the ground even in the most violent contexts. However, as Richmond argues, such local capacity to build peace from the inside is generally left unrecognized, and it has been largely ignored in the policy and scholarly literature on peacebuilding. In Peace and Political Order, Richmond looks at peace processes as they scale up from local to transnational efforts to consider how to build a lasting and productive peace. He takes a comparative and expansive look at peace efforts in conflict situations in countries around the world to consider what local voices might suggest about the inadequacy of peace processes engineered at the international level. As well, he explores how local workers act to modify or resist peace processes headed by international NGOs, and to what degree local actors have enjoyed success in the peace process (and how they have affected the international peace process).
