This book was released on 1970 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of force tests was conducted on unpowered, high-speed ground-vehicle model configurations to provide information on shapes of this type very near the ground. Of particular interest were the crosswind effects on the aerodynamic forces and moments of the six models tested. These tests were conducted over the moving-belt ground plane in the 17-foot (5.18-m) test section of the Langley 300-MPH 7-by 10-foot tunnel at free-stream dynamic pressure values of 10 lb/ft2 (478.8 N/m2). The results indicate that the half-circle configuration is desirable because of the low rolling moments it experienced; however, it did have higher lift values than the other configurations and, from a utility standpoint, could be impractical. The half-circle configurations with extended sides may make good compromise configurations. All the ground-simulation techniques employed -moving ground belt, fixed ground belt, and image model -gave reasonable representations of the overall aerodynamic trends.

Download or read book The Theory of Diffusion in Strained Systems written by Louis A. Girifalco and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 1082 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general theory of solid-state diffusion in strained systems is developed on a molecular-kinetic basis. The theory predicts that for simple strains the diffusion coefficient is an exponential function of the lattice parameter and that the rate of change of the diffusion coefficient with strain is linearly related to the interatomic forces. It has also been shown that for plastic flow the diffusion coefficient is a linear function of strain rate. All the conclusions are confirmed by the data available in the literature.

Book Synopsis Aerodynamic Characteristics of Several Current Helicopter Tail Boom Cross Sections Including the Effect of Spoilers by : John C. Wilson
Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Several Current Helicopter Tail Boom Cross Sections Including the Effect of Spoilers written by John C. Wilson and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerodynamic characteristics were determined of three cylindrical shapes representative of tail boom cross sections of the AH-64, UH-60, and UH-1H helicopters. Forces and pressures were measured in a wind-tunnel investigation. Data was obtained for a flow incidence range from -45 to 90 deg and a dynamic pressure range from 1.5 to 50 psf. These ranges provided data representative of full-scale Reynolds numbers and the full range of flow incidence to which these helicopter tail boom shapes would be subjected at low flight speeds. The effects of protuberances such as tail rotor drive-shaft covers and spoilers were evaluated. The data indicate that significant side loads on tail booms of helicopters can be generated and that the addition of spoilers can beneficially alter the side loads. Although an increase in vertical drag occurs, the net effect through reduction of tail rotor thrust required can be an improvement in helicopter performance.
