Book Synopsis Preoperative Assessment by : Derek Dillane
Download or read book Preoperative Assessment written by Derek Dillane and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book uses a case-based approach to provide current information on a range of medical issues with the goal of enhancing preoperative evaluation and optimization. It meets the market need for a resource that concisely encapsulates current knowledge on the medical management of specific topics in a setting relevant to the preoperative clinic. In so doing the book aims to improve patient care and safety, enhance resource use, facilitate appropriate and timely management of preexisting conditions and diminish patient concerns. Organized into sections according to body system, each section consists of chapters delineating a specific disorder. Each chapter starts with a clinical vignette followed by a question-and-answer style investigation of the relevant issues. These questions attempt to address commonly encountered clinical dilemmas where opinion often differs between, and occasionally within, medical sub-specialties. Expertly written chapters are also supplemented by a number of chapters which address special considerations such as the frail patient and chronic opioid use. Preoperative Assessment: A Case-Based Approach is an invaluable reference for all physicians involved in preoperative assessment including anesthesiologists, surgeons, internists, family doctors and residents in these fields. Nurse practitioners and other allied heath professionals involved in preoperative evaluation may also find this a book a valuable and timely resource. .

Book Synopsis A Study of Perioperative Team Members' Role and Educational Preparation on Cost-Containment Attitudes by : Mark A. Pistone
Download or read book A Study of Perioperative Team Members' Role and Educational Preparation on Cost-Containment Attitudes written by Mark A. Pistone and published by . This book was released on 1999-06-01 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this descriptive comparative study was to describe and compare the differences one's role, Registered Nurse (RN) or unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP), length of healthcare experience, and educational preparation play in a perioperative staff member's attitude toward cost- containment in general, and specifically, the reprocessing of disposables. Previous studies have explored the attitudes of nurses (Cyr, 1990; Hemsley- Robinson & Miller, 1995; Takes, 1992), toward cost-containment. However, no studies have specifically investigated the attitudes of UAP toward cost- effectiveness, nor any staff members' attitudes toward reuse of single-use items. A pilot study was conducted with 17 RNs and 17 UAP to verify the reliability of the instruments modified for this study. The tools used were the Perioperative Staff Cost-Effectiveness Attitude Scale, the Reprocessing Single- Use Items Attitude Scale and a Demographic Data collection tool that included open-ended questions regarding cost-effectiveness and reuse of single-use items. The study involved a convenience sample of 70 RNs and 54 UAP from three large teaching facilities in San Antonio, Texas. Mean scores on the Perioperative Staff Cost-Effectiveness Attitude Scale were 74.54 for the RNs and 74.79 for the UAP. The Reprocessing Single-Use Items Attitude Scale also had similar results with the RNs' mean score of 64.71 and the UAPs' mean score at 63.67. The potential range of scores is from 20 to 100, with a score greater than 60 indicating a positive attitude. Analysis of variances (ANOVA) showed no statistically significant differences in the groups with respect to role, education, or experience. Over half of the responses by the participants identified four common reasons which hindered actually placing a single-use item in a reprocessing receptacle.
