Book Synopsis Individualized Course Completion Time Predictions: Development of Instruments and Techniques by : Harold Wagner
Download or read book Individualized Course Completion Time Predictions: Development of Instruments and Techniques written by Harold Wagner and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DICTIONS, Methodologies, Programmed instruction, Test methodsA system for predicting individual self-paced course completion time was developed and tested. Such a system permits the timely reporting of assignment information and the efficient utilization of course graduates. A predictive test battery was developed, consisting primarily of content-related tests and 'mini-lessons' that were directly associated with the Stock Control and Accounting Specialist (MOS 76P20) course. Such predictors proved to be better than general aptitude measures for predicting course completion time in this training program. Stepwise multiple linear regression analyses were used to develop predictive functions and determine potentially useful predictors. Nomographs were constructed to display the predictive equations and are recommended for use. (Author).

Download or read book Correctional Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Communities written by Jennifer A. Pealer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on original research on the effectiveness of a therapeutic community (TC) in reducing recidivism among juvenile male offenders, Correctional Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Communities: Reducing Recidivism Through Behavior Change provides a comprehensive review of the current state of drug treatment for the offending population, especially the link between juvenile offending and substance abuse. The book assesses the factors predicting successful completion of treatment as well as the methodological limitation of previous TC program reviews, and suggests policy implication and routes for future research. Using improvements such as multiple outcome criteria, long-term follow-up, matching groups on risk and needs, and the employment of a standardized instrument to measure program quality, Correctional Rehabilitation assesses the degree to which participation in the TC affects antisocial attitudes and reduces delinquency. Readers will explore how TCs can be designed to influence adolescent drug offenders and ultimately reduce recidivism. This book is essential reading for students, researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders focusing on the development of treatment programs.
Book Synopsis Thinking and Deciding by : Jonathan Baron
Download or read book Thinking and Deciding written by Jonathan Baron and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-07-31 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifth edition of the classic text Thinking and Deciding updates the broad overview of the field of judgments and decisions offered in previous editions. It covers the normative standards used to evaluate conclusions, such as logic, probability, and various forms of utility theory. It explains descriptive accounts of departures from these standards, largely in terms of principles of cognitive psychology, emphasizing the distinction between search processes and inferences. Chapters cover decisions under risk, decision analysis, moral decisions and social dilemmas, and decisions about the future. Although the book assumes no particular prerequisites beyond introductory high-school algebra, it is most suited to advanced undergraduates, early graduate students, and active researchers in related fields, such as business, politics, law, medicine, economics, and philosophy.

Book Synopsis Heuristics and Biases by : Thomas Gilovich
Download or read book Heuristics and Biases written by Thomas Gilovich and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-07-08 with total page 902 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is our case strong enough to go to trial? Will interest rates go up? Can I trust this person? Such questions - and the judgments required to answer them - are woven into the fabric of everyday experience. This book, first published in 2002, examines how people make such judgments. The study of human judgment was transformed in the 1970s, when Kahneman and Tversky introduced their 'heuristics and biases' approach and challenged the dominance of strictly rational models. Their work highlighted the reflexive mental operations used to make complex problems manageable and illuminated how the same processes can lead to both accurate and dangerously flawed judgments. The heuristics and biases framework generated a torrent of influential research in psychology - research that reverberated widely and affected scholarship in economics, law, medicine, management, and political science. This book compiles the most influential research in the heuristics and biases tradition since the initial collection of 1982 (by Kahneman, Slovic, and Tversky).
