Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Stamm integrates the biblical, theological, and pastoral insight fitting of a liturgical scholar-pastor as he attempts to improve and deepen the church's congregational practice of intercessory prayer. In Devoting Ourselves to the Prayers: A Baptismal Theology for the Church's Intercessory Work, Dr. Stamm points to the strong biblical and historical connections between baptism and intercessory prayer, suggesting that intercessory prayer is a vocation—a calling—rooted in our common baptism. Imaginative, informative, and deeply committed to the idea that prayer is an essential practice of the church, this book not only addresses what has become the church's neglect of intercessory prayer but the difference such praying makes.
Book Synopsis At The Mercy of Pimps and Predators by : Dee Grant
Download or read book At The Mercy of Pimps and Predators written by Dee Grant and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells the true story of local-government-sanctioned sex trafficking in Prince George's County in the state of Maryland. This book not only exposes human trafficking within the United States of America, but it also shows that some governmental officials are full participants as pimps and consumers of the sex trafficking. This book is a shout-out to the world, especially to women who are in positions of power to appeal to powerful women so they can take time to look back, to help other less-fortunate women and do something meaningful about ending rape. Talk is cheap, so stop talking just to get votes. Action speaks louder than words. Do a good deed for humanity. It is my prayer and hope that this book will cause a wake-up call to ring across America and cause wives and mothers to get involved to clean this evil sex slave trade out of our nation.
Download or read book Animal Theology written by Andrew Linzey and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animal rights is animal theology. The author argues that historical theology, creatively defined, must reject humanocentricity. He questions the assumption that if theology is to speak on this issue, 'it must only do so on the side of the oppressors.' His theological query investigates not only the abstractions of theory, but also the realities of hunting, animal experimentation, and genetic engineering. He is an important, pioneering, Christian voice speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Book Synopsis Praying and Preying by : Aparecida Vilaca
Download or read book Praying and Preying written by Aparecida Vilaca and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2016-03-29 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Praying and Preying offers one of the rare anthropological monographs on the Christian experience of contemporary Amazonian indigenous peoples, based on an ethnographic study of the relationship between the Wari’, inhabitants of Brazilian Amazonia, and the Evangelical missionaries of the New Tribes Mission. Vilaça turns to a vast range of historical, ethnographic and mythological material related to both the Wari’ and missionaries perspectives and the author’s own ethnographic field notes from her more than 30-year involvement with the Wari’ community. Developing a close dialogue between the Melanesian literature, which informs much of the recent work in the Anthropology of Christianity, and the concepts and theories deriving from Amazonian ethnology, in particular the notions of openness to the other, unstable dualism, and perspectivism, the author provides a fine-grained analysis of the equivocations and paradoxes that underlie the translation processes performed by the different agents involved and their implications for the transformation of the native notion of personhood.

Book Synopsis Hunters, Predators and Prey by : Frédéric Laugrand
Download or read book Hunters, Predators and Prey written by Frédéric Laugrand and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inuit hunting traditions are rich in perceptions, practices and stories relating to animals and human beings. The authors examine key figures such as the raven, an animal that has a central place in Inuit culture as a creator and a trickster, and qupirruit, a category consisting of insects and other small life forms. After these non-social and inedible animals, they discuss the dog, the companion of the hunter, and the fellow hunter, the bear, considered to resemble a human being. A discussion of the renewal of whale hunting accompanies the chapters about animals considered ‘prey par excellence’: the caribou, the seals and the whale, symbol of the whole. By giving precedence to Inuit categories such as ‘inua’ (owner) and ‘tarniq’ (shade) over European concepts such as ‘spirit ‘and ‘soul’, the book compares and contrasts human beings and animals to provide a better understanding of human-animal relationships in a hunting society.

Book Synopsis Pray While You're Prey by : Toni L. Wortherly
Download or read book Pray While You're Prey written by Toni L. Wortherly and published by Artistic Esquire Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where do I begin with this review? I think I should take my sisters advice and repeat what she often tells me: If I cant say amen, just say ouch. Keeping that in mind, Im over here saying ouch because author Toni L. Wortherly is on my toe stomping pretty hard with this petite but powerful book. As a single Christian woman combating some of the issues of loneliness and frustration associated with living a single life, this book speaks volumes to me. There is nothing like reading what youre going through to let the reader know they are not alone on this journey. As Ive pledged my life to following the tenants of my faith, its good to have confirmation, in the form of a book, which I can reference from time to time. Ill admit that Im not crazy about the title; I dont like to be referred to as prey or as the hunted. The Word of God says: He that finds a wife, finds a good thing so a loose translation would mean that I am prey. I would hope that my mate wouldnt refer to me in this manner. The translation would also imply that Im weak or defenseless; I feel that Im a strong vessel, who patiently awaits capture. Pray While Youre Prey is a great read for single women. Those of us who have the desire to be spiritually grounded in all that we do, can draw strength from the scripture, interpretation and study questions found at the end of each chapter. This is a book to share with your entire cadre of single sister friends as we journey down the path to closeness with God and the quest to be a virtuous woman and wife.
Book Synopsis Praying with David: Honest Prayers for Hard Seasons by : Mark Becton

This book was released on 2023-02-07 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David was the “man after God’s own heart,” yet his life was characterized by hardship. During his lifetime, he was fired, became homeless, grieved the loss of three children, built a nation, lost almost everything after his affair with Bathsheba, and then saw a work that was dear to him given to another. Rejected, dejected, and worn down, David took out his pen and wrote half of the Psalms as prayers to the Lord. As he did, he experienced an awe of God that he has left for us to meditate on when we struggle through our own heartache. Praying with David: Honest Prayers for Hard Seasons will encourage you to keep crying out to God in the hard seasons. You will experience strength, hope, guidance, comfort, and peace—just as David did.
