Die Familie ist die natürliche Umgebung für sein Wachsen und Gedeihen. So heißt es in der Präambel der UN-Kinderrechtskonventionen, die 1990 in Kraft trat und der mit Ausnahme von Somalia und den USA alle Staaten zustimmten. Die Unterzeichnerstaaten sind sich also darin einig, dass Kinder ein Recht auf diese Umgebung für ihr Wachsen und Gedeihen haben. Seit Jahren machen verschiedene Meldungen in den Medien und statistische Untersuchungen jedoch deutlich: Besonders in Familien findet Kindesmisshandlung statt. Nicht alle Familien können ihre Aufgaben voll erfüllen und dem Kind die nötige Umgebung bieten. Weiterhin stimmen die Unterzeichnerstaaten darin überein, dass der Familie der erforderliche Schutz und Beistand gewährt werden sollte, damit sie ihre Aufgaben erfüllen kann. Daher stellt sich die Frage: Wie können Familien dabei unterstützt werden, ihren Kindern ein Aufwachsen umgeben von Glück, Liebe und Verständnis zu ermöglichen? Wie können Kinder vor Misshandlung und Vernachlässigung in ihren Familien geschützt werden? Diese Hausarbeit soll einen Einblick in die Prävention familiärer Kindesmisshandlung geben. Es soll aufgezeigt werden, wo Prävention ansetzen kann. Dabei werden einige Praxisbeispiele exemplarisch erwähnt. Nur die Prävention von familiärer Kindesmisshandlung in Deutschland wird Gegenstand dieser Arbeit sein, da sonst kulturell unterschiedliche gesellschaftliche Normen und dadurch auch verschiedene Eingrenzungen von Kindesmisshandlung bearbeitet werden müssten. Das ist im Umfang dieser Hausarbeit nicht möglich. In Kapitel 2 wird Kindesmisshandlung zunächst definiert und ihre verschiedenen Formen werden erläutert. Das 3. Kapitel beschäftigt sich mit der Prävention von Kindesmisshandlung. Hier werden unterschiedliche Präventionsansätze, unterteilt nach primärer, sekundärer und tertiärer Prävention, dargestellt und untersucht.
