Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: X-ray fluorescenct" spectrometry is now widely accepted as a highly versatile and potentially accurate method of instrumental elemental analysis and so it is somewhat surprising that although the volume of published work dealing with the technique is high the number of textbooks dealing exclusively with its application is relatively few. Without wishing to detract from the excellence of the textbooks which are already available we have both felt for some time, that a great need exists for a book dealing with the more practical aspects of the subject. For a number of years we have been associated with the provision and arrangement of X-ray schools for the training of new X-ray spectroscopists as well as in the organisation of conferences and sym posia whose aims have been to keep the more experienced workers abreast with the latest developments in instrumentation and techniques. In all of these ventures we have found a considerable dearth of reference work dealing with the reasons why an X-ray method has not succeeded as opposed to the multitude of success stories which regularly saturate the scientific press. In this book, which is based on lecture notes from well established courses in X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, we have tried to cover all of the more usual practical difficulties experienced in the application of the method and we have endeavoured to keep the amount of purely theoretical data at a minimum.

Book excerpt: This open access book gives a complete and comprehensive introduction to the fields of medical imaging systems, as designed for a broad range of applications. The authors of the book first explain the foundations of system theory and image processing, before highlighting several modalities in a dedicated chapter. The initial focus is on modalities that are closely related to traditional camera systems such as endoscopy and microscopy. This is followed by more complex image formation processes: magnetic resonance imaging, X-ray projection imaging, computed tomography, X-ray phase-contrast imaging, nuclear imaging, ultrasound, and optical coherence tomography.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide was created to help anyone interested in or new to the Orthopedic field. Most Radiology books are technical with few pictures and quite frankly tedious to read when you need to know how to shoot the image "now". This quick refence guide includes the most widely used positioning for daily use, if it were to include every possible position it would be large, cumbersome and not what I was trying to create for my fellow x-ray technologists I was not lucky enough to have something like this to help me learn what the Doctors were looking for. I can only hope this guide eases the transition into the world of orthopedics.

This easy-to-read handbook begins with the basics on how to "understand" X-rays and then goes on to discuss the details. It is a practical reference guide, easy to carry to ward rounds and tutorials, and despite its small size, contains a wealth of information. Radiologists are often consulted regarding normal variants that mimic disease, and these are discussed in detail. Exhaustive lists of differential diagnoses are featured. The X-ray quizzes are informative yet challenging. This synopsis will be invaluable for day-to-day hospital work and in preparing for qualifying examinations.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Radiography: A Hand-Book of the Applications of the X-Rays As is well known, any ordinary source of electricity, whether a battery, dynamo, friction machine, or what not, has two poles or terminals, relatively described as positive and negative. If these are connected by means of a wire we form what is known as a circuit; and when the battery (etc.) is in action a current of electricity passes along the wire. Book excerpt: The first hands-on guide to XRD and XRF sampling and specimen preparation Systematic errors from poor sampling and improper specimen preparation can easily render X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) data of questionable use for analysis. But, until now, the practical information that can help to reduce these errors has never been readily available in one volume. This book fills a vital gap in the literature, bringing together a wealth of material previously available only in workbooks, company manuals, and other inside sources. It provides detailed coverage of the major tasks involved in X-ray analysis - complete with theory, step-by-step methods, equipment suggestions, and problem-solving tips. With a full complement of tools and techniques, this comprehensive guide helps both beginners and experienced analysts to make the best decision on sample treatment and get accurate XRD and XRF results-saving valuable time, money, and effort. Covers X-ray techniques for analyzing biological, geological, metallic, ceramic, and other materials * Addresses all aspects of specimen preparation, including handling unusual or very small samples, liquids and solutions, and more * Features special chapters on specimen preparation equipment and XRF standards * Contains useful bibliography and helpful references.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An excellent book for professional crystallographers! In 2012 the crystallographic community celebrated 100 years of X-ray diffraction in honour of the pioneering experiment in 1912 by Max von Laue, Friedrich and Knipping. Experimental developments e.g. brilliant X-ray sources, area detection, and developments in computer hardware and software have led to increasing applications in X-ray analysis. This completely revised edition is a guide for practical work in X-ray analysis. An introduction to basic crystallography moves quickly to a practical and experimental treatment of structure analysis. Emphasis is placed on understanding results and avoiding pitfalls. Essential reading for researchers from the student to the professional level interested in understanding the structure of molecules.
