Download or read book Mathematics in Industrial Problems written by Avner Friedman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-10-25 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the eighth volume in the series "Mathematics in Industrial Prob lems." The motivation for these volumes is to foster interaction between Industry and Mathematics at the "grass roots level"; that is, at the level of specific problems. These problems come from Industry: they arise from models developed by the industrial scientists in ventures directed at the manufacture of new or improved products. At the same time, these prob lems have the potential for mathematical challenge and novelty. To identify such problems, I have visited industries and had discussions with their scientists. Some of the scientists have subsequently presented their problems in the IMA Seminar on Industrial Problems. The book is based on the seminar presentations and on questions raised in subsequent discussions. Each chapter is devoted to one of the talks and is self-contained. The chapters usually provide references to the mathematical literature and a list of open problems that are of interest to industrial scientists. For some problems, a partial solution is indicated briefly. The last chapter of the book contains a short description of solutions to some of the problems raised in the previous volume, as well as references to papers in which such solutions have been published.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an insider's view of how industrial problems are translated into mathematics and how solving the mathematics leads to convincing industrial solutions as well. In 6 technical chapters, a wide range of industrial problems is modeled, simulated, and optimized; 4 others describe the modeling, computing, optimization, and data analysis concepts shaping the work of the Fraunhofer ITWM. Each technical chapter illustrates how the relevant mathematics has been adapted or extended for the specific application and details the underlying practical problem and resulting software. The final chapter shows how the use of mathematical modeling in the classroom can change the image of this subject, making it exciting and fun.

Book Synopsis Advanced Models for Manufacturing Systems Management by : A Villa
Download or read book Advanced Models for Manufacturing Systems Management written by A Villa and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-09-19 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the mathematical models applicable to manufacturing systems management, covering problems from production to real time control. It explores manufacturing systems from the viewpoints of both physical structure and performance measures. Two broad classes of mathematical models are covered in detail: Generative models, which yield a set of decision variables optimizing a performance measure, based on mathematical optimization Evaluative models, which evaluate some performance measures as a function of some predefined decision strategy. Within this class Petri Nets and Queueing Networks are discussed. Advanced Models for Manufacturing Systems Management describes dynamic systems modeling by state equations, a unifying framework for a wide variety of models. The text/reference stresses model building, but it examines model solving as well. Computational techniques are illustrated, such as linear programming, branch and bound methods, and dynamic programming. Particular emphasis is given to the development of heuristic methods from mathematical models. The book provides readers with valuable tools for management and design. The use of descriptive models within an optimization algorithm is considered. Numerous examples illustrate theoretical concepts throughout text. Appendices are given at the end of the book in order to recall fundamentals, such as linear programming and graph theory. Appendices also appear within each chapter. In this way, readers can follow the main reading path without getting involved with details; these appendices can be read at a later time. This textual structure makes this book particularly well suited for self-study. Advanced Models for Manufacturing Systems Management is beneficial reading for both students and practitioners.

Book Synopsis A Mathematical Approach to Research Problems of Science and Technology by : Ryuei Nishii
Download or read book A Mathematical Approach to Research Problems of Science and Technology written by Ryuei Nishii and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with one of the most novel advances in mathematical modeling for applied scientific technology, including computer graphics, public-key encryption, data visualization, statistical data analysis, symbolic calculation, encryption, error correcting codes, and risk management. It also shows that mathematics can be used to solve problems from nature, e.g., slime mold algorithms. One of the unique features of this book is that it shows readers how to use pure and applied mathematics, especially those mathematical theory/techniques developed in the twentieth century, and developing now, to solve applied problems in several fields of industry. Each chapter includes clues on how to use "mathematics" to solve concrete problems faced in industry as well as practical applications. The target audience is not limited to researchers working in applied mathematics and includes those in engineering, material sciences, economics, and life sciences.
Book Synopsis Evolutionary Computing in Advanced Manufacturing by : Manoj Tiwari
Download or read book Evolutionary Computing in Advanced Manufacturing written by Manoj Tiwari and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-07-05 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This cutting-edge book covers emerging, evolutionary and nature inspired optimization techniques in the field of advanced manufacturing. The complexity of real life advanced manufacturing problems often cannot be solved by traditional engineering or computational methods. Hence, in recent years researchers and practitioners have proposed and developed new strands of advanced, intelligent techniques and methodologies. Evolutionary computing approaches are introduced in the context of a wide range of manufacturing activities, and through the examination of practical problems and their solutions, readers will gain confidence to apply these powerful computing solutions. The initial chapters introduce and discuss the well established evolutionary algorithm, to help readers to understand the basic building blocks and steps required to successfully implement their own solutions to real life advanced manufacturing problems. In the later chapters, modified and improved versions of evolutionary algorithms are discussed. The book concludes with appendices which provide general descriptions of several evolutionary algorithms.
