Book excerpt: Le flou nosographique du concept de déficience intellectuelle légère à entraîner depuis 1909, une absence de définition notionnelle dans la prise en compte institutionnelle, tant sur le plan du contenu des textes officiels que de l'organisation du système scolaire. Les pratiques pédagogiques qui en découlent, ne réduisent que peu les difficultés des enfants, les amplifient parfois, voire en créent de nouvelles. D'un côté, nous trouvons la psychométrie et la psychopathologie non analytique qui balisent le champ de la déficience avec les bornes statistiquement définies de l'intelligence et de la normalité ; de l'autre, la pédagogie spécialisée, la psychanalyse nous en libèrent pour mettre en avant la part d'histoire du sujet. Une nouvelle approche de ce concept est donc susceptible de permettre une meilleure compréhension et un traitement éducatif plus adapté. L'étude du développment du concept de déficience intellectuelle légère dans les textes officiels, celle du dispositif de sa prise en charge en Haute-Loire et la description du fonctionnement de la Commission de circonscription du second degré nous permettent d'en esquisser les contours. L'analyse de contenu des dossiers pédagogiques et psychologiques des enfants orientés en SES affine cette représentation en dégageant les principales lignes de force que nous vérifions à l'aide de trois études de cas. Elles rendent compte du développement d'une structuration déficitaire et mettent l'accent sur un fonctionnement psychologique s'inscrit fortement dans une relation de dépendance. Le modèle de la communication nous autorise à dépasser la dialectique du normal et du pathologique. La déficience intellectuelle légère devient alors différence et l'approche de l'autre ne peut plus être l'objectivation d'une catégorie ou d'une pathologie simple mais se situe maintenant au niveau de l'investigation des significations des altérités et de leur retentissement global et inter-relationnel.
