Il met en évidence par compétence et par niveau les reculs, les progrès, les impasses, et propose des préconisations de progressions du CP à la 5e pour un apprentissage raisonné et cohérent de l'orthographe syntaxique.

La mise en place de ces connaissances implicites évolue en parallèle du développement de l'intelligence et des structures logiques, car elle fait appel à un raisonnement de type inductif sur un matériel verbal : des rencontres répétées entre le système écrit et le sujet permettent à celui-ci le repérage de faits linguistiques particuliers et réguliers, dont il tire les lois générales de fonctionnement du système. Les choix morphographiques adéquats résultant de la mise en œuvre de ces compétences syntaxiques, sous-tendues par des capacités logiques de raisonnement et de catégorisation grammaticale, nous avons souhaité consolider ces compétences en amont par un projet de rééducation orthophonique spécifique au développement de ces paramètres, afin de tester leur impact sur les performances en orthographe grammaticale chez cinq enfants âgés de Il à 13 ans, atteints de Trouble Spécifique d'Apprentissage du Langage Ecrit, scolarisés au collège. Les applications cliniques élaborées à cet effet, s'appuyant sur des bases théoriques développées dans la première grande partie de ce mémoire, seront exposées sous forme d'études de cas dont l'analyse visera à établir la validité de l'introduction de cette démarche dans la prise en charge thérapeutique.

The volume aims to capture the state of the art in this rapidly expanding field. An attempt is made to clarify the vague and often inconsistent definitions of functional literacy from the perspective of development. Cognitive, linguistic, educational, and social factors of literacy development are all taken into account. The volume consists of three subsequent parts. The first part goes into phonological precursors of literacy development. In this part the focus is on the development of early language precursors of of reading and writing. The cultural foundations of these precursors are explored, and their links with reading development are dealt with in detail. Different psycholinguistic approaches are also proposed to explain the occurrence of literacy problems. In the second part, the scope is on the constraints of reading and writing efficiency at the word level and beyond. The acquisition of reading and writing is seen as a result from the interaction between phonological, orthographic, and semantic processes. A crosslinguistic perspective is taken on the role of writing system factors in the acquisition of literacy skills. The final part deals with the role of social and educational factors in literacy acquisition. Starting from a crosscultural perspective, the central issue is how the attainment of functional literacy is dependent on sociocultural variation. The predictors of more advanced levels of literacy development are considered, including foreign language literacy and adult literacy.
