Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has already been said, if not written, that progress in knowledge in any domain consists mainly of expressing things that are well known in a different and, if possible, new way. That is the purpose of this book. In his solitary effort an author is entirely and solely responsible for what he writes, including any mistakes or errors in the text. This is the case here as this book is not a result of a pluridisciplinary effort. It seems to the author that while reflection can be and sometimes is fruitful in a team, the task of bringing to light new ideas or to shed new light on old ones is mostly a solitary exercise. There are many illustrious examples to which, of course, the author does not compare himself: Quesnay, Rousseau, A. Smith, D. Ricardo, Fourier, Walras, Keynes, Freud and many others. The text contains many analogies between economics and phys ics. This last 'exact' science has adopted two paradigms in this century: disequilibria are essential and normal states; the dynamics of events, the temporal evolution of states, is the explanation of Nature. One could also add a third, the fundamental principles of uncertainty and randomness. The deterministic models that were current at the end of the last century were, on the contrary, attached to states of equilibrium and were invariant with respect to time as they assumed perfect causa lity, i.e. a perfect knowledge of the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The convoys of public galleys, the typical form of Venetian medieval sea-faring, had disappeared gradually by the time of the battle of Lepanto. This disappearance was not the sign of a general economic crisis, but was nevertheless the corollary of important political, economic and social changes which marked the history of sixteenth-century Venice. Through the study of economic actors, their identity, their practices and their functions, this book analyses public and private commercial navigation in relation to the evolution of forms and functions of the State, within a general context of the redefinition of the relationship between public good and private interests.

This book was released on 2014-06-25 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Madame de Souza was an eighteenth-century political journalist of undisputed talent. She did not fear to accuse religion of falsely justifying intolerant political attitudes, or using indoctrination for little human gain. She dared to show that this achieved immediate social dislocation, and, in the long-term, grief and financial dysfunction. Eugénie et Mathilde, which documents revolutionary decisions made in Emigration, and the irrevocable futility of losing family, home, rank and property in war, fully reflects her approach. It is a complex and compelling story of one family and its experience of 1789-1797 - the years of exile during the French Revolution. Heart-rending decisions, forced departures, capital punishment and death of loved-ones make the novel as topical now as it was on the eve of Napoleon’s Russian Campaign. Souza’s plea for tolerance, fraternity and compromise on the part of the State and its enemies has a relevance that stretches out to the 21st Century; her message to include women in politics and not to make them suffer the unnecessary death of fathers, husbands, children and friends is even more current. This edition lifts the veil on a literary form of anti-sentimental romance, or the art of making historically accurate accounts masquerade as fiction. That, more than anything else, was Madame de Souza’s forte.

It addresses the consequences of the failure of large-scale industrial enterprise, and the inability of central government policies to cope with the results of economic restructuring, in a series of comparative case studies showing how local communities throughout Europe (East and West, rural and industrial) have responded to economic dislocation and decline, and how these local initiatives have become the basis for economic regeneration.
