Download or read book Beef, Bible and Bullets written by Richard Lapper and published by . This book was released on 2021-05-13 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beef, bible and bullets explains the rise to power of a maverick right-wing populist in Latin America's largest economy. The book describes how the country's worst ever recession, growing criminal violence and an unparalleled corruption scandal paved the way for the unexpected victory of an extremist political outsider. It also analyses how backing from rapidly expanding evangelical churches, wealthy agribusiness groups and a powerful security establishment - the so-called bible, beef and bullets lobbies - has brought to office the Brazil's most conservative government since the 1970s.

Download or read book Brazil written by International Monetary Fund. Fiscal Affairs Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2018-11-30 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brazil is the largest country in Latin America with a varied geography and a population of over 200 million spread across 26 diverse states, generating wide-ranging infrastructure needs. Over the decades, many government investment initiatives have been launched to address these needs, however there remains a significant infrastructure gap in Brazil which continues to hamper growth potential. Over the past two decades, public investment has been considerably below the regional and income group averages and this has translated into much lower capital stock. Public investment averaged around 2 percent of GDP during the period 1995 to 2015, compared with 6.4 percent for Emerging Market Economies (EME) and 5.5 percent for Latin American Countries (LAC). As a result, public capital stock in 2015 was only 35 percent of GDP compared with an average of 92 for EME and 87 for LAC.
