Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume book examines the most important global problem—the recovery of the social-economic crises due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This economic crisis has its own basis and differs from others by the lockdown of most businesses on the decision of authorities. The uncertainty of the future economic revival obliges scientists around the world to unite in search of effective solutions that will become the basis for prosperity and human wellbeing. The death of millions of people around the world, several waves of coronavirus, and a global pandemic have forced most states to seek extraordinary measures to save people and revive economic activity. The world economy experienced a global shock, probably never experienced before due to lockdowns. The disruptions and gaps in the value chains were primarily caused by the lockdowns of enterprises. The change in the essence of the economic crisis has raised the question of how to overcome it and revive economic activity. The crisis caused a sharp decline in incomes of the population around the world, which led to social upheavals. Post-COVID economic revival in a globalized world has become the most important problem of our time. This book offers contributions of authors from different countries and explores problem solving in the fields of public administration (Volume I, Part I), financial services (Volume I, Part II), different branches (Volume II, Part III) and the social sector (Volume II, Part IV). The second volume of the book is devoted problems in sectors of the economy, such as agriculture, tourism, aircraft, the automotive industry, electricity, culture, etc. The second part of the second volume examines trends in the revival in the social sector—medicine, pharmaceuticals, the labor market and social insurance. Despite the fact that the book is divided into two volumes and four parts, a holistic and systematic perception of the new reality of the post-COVID age can be obtained by reading the entire book. This book will be of interest to academics and practitioners in public administration and economics, particularly those who are interested in Post-COVID economic revival.

What began as a small medical ripple in Wuhan, China, a city many of us had never heard of, quickly erupted into a tsunami of epic proportions. Every market, industry, vertical, profession, service, and category of product was in some way rocked by its impact. And, for the first time in recorded history, every wheel, cog and gear in the global retail industry ground to a virtual halt. From two-time, international best-selling author and futurist Doug Stephens, Resurrecting Retail is not just a riveting story of the unprecedented crash of an industry during this time of crisis but a roadmap for its rebirth. Meticulously researched in real time from inside the crisis, Resurrecting Retail provides a comprehensive and surprising vision of how Covid-19 will reshape every aspect of consumer life, including the very essence of why we shop.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, The Kyoto Post-COVID Manifesto for Global Economics (KM-PC), is a sequel to our 2018 book, The Kyoto Manifesto for Global Economics (KM-I, 2018). It further exposes the failures of a global economic regime that, based on self-interest, has led to the enormously unequal and fragmented society of today and our decreased ability to respond and recover from the critical worldwide consequences of such a regime over time — notably, climate change. At stake is our very survival beyond the twenty-first century. The fundamental tenet of this book is that our power to heal our currently fractured society lies in the depth of our humanity — in our shared human spirit and spirituality. What is sacred or of imperishable supreme value is what we can be as a human race: empowered, fulfilled individuals, living in harmony, deeply sharing and caring for one another and the environment that sustains us across our distinct cultures and worlds in which we live. Thus, the norms in our economic relations do not have to be those of self-interest that separates us, the ever-watchful distrust represented by “the deal” and immediate economic advantage for me. Instead, we can build an economic frame for our society based on mindfulness, care, mutual human benefit, and trust — on our shared humanity. Our argument was complete and we were ready to publish. But then, suddenly, from the dawning of 2020, everything changed. COVID-19 invaded and the world as we knew it simply stopped. No one saw it coming. As authors, we waited to watch and seek to understand. The result is that the book captures the COVID trauma and, against the fractures based on self-interest already visible in today’s society, assesses the impact of COVID-19 now and for the future. Focusing on a humanity-based economics is even more important now, and this book shows why. What followed immediately was a period of high uncertainty, and what’s to come is still unknown. Economists have a lot to learn from this point in history, as different countries have handled this very differently from others. This book journeys through what one emerging economy has done to attempt recovery following immense disruption: Mexico's recovery following the pandemic. This volume offers empirical studies that trace the post-pandemic recovery period in Mexico, providing insight into what this emergent economy went through and did after 2021. The first part of the book examines macroeconomics, such as tax collection, and microeconomics, such as household income. These chapters draw on policy and the actions driving the economic recover in this emergent economy. The second half of the book focuses on what organizations can do to improve internal governance as well as market success. Full of new conceptual and empirical studies, the book explains what it looks like to rebuild an emerging economy. It will appeal to economists, economic scholars, and policymakers trying to make sense of the best ways to move forward following intense period of economic instability.

Book excerpt: THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Bestselling author of The Four and NYU Business School professor delivers an insightful, urgent analysis of who stands to win and who's at risk to lose in a post-pandemic world. 'Thought-provoking... As good an analysis as you could wish to read.' FINANCIAL TIMES _______________ The Covid-19 outbreak has turned bedrooms into offices, pitted young against old and widened the gaps between rich and poor, red and blue, the mask-wearers and the mask-haters. Some businesses, like Amazon and video conference software maker Zoom, woke up to find themselves crushed under an avalanche of consumer demand. Others, like the restaurant, travel, hospitality and live entertainment industries, scrambled to not become instantly obsolete. But the pandemic has not been a change agent so much as an accelerant of trends that were already well underway. In Post Corona, Galloway outlines the contours of both crisis and opportunity that lie ahead. While the powerful tech monopolies will thrive in the disruption other businesses, like higher education, will struggle to maintain a value proposition that no longer makes sense when we can't stand shoulder to shoulder. Combining his signature humour and brash style with razor-sharp business insights, Galloway offers both warning and hope in equal measure. __________ 'Entertaining and informative.' THE ECONOMIST

Book excerpt: ICT has had a huge impact on businesses and organizations in general, with new business models, new marketing channels, and new markets being reached using these technologies. ICT can promote new strategies and enhancers to optimize various aspects of business, but this technology also provides important tools that can empower social entrepreneurship initiatives to develop, fund, and implement new and innovative solutions to social, cultural, and environmental problems. With the upheaval caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and its subsequent impact on the economy, the methods and tools used within this field will be forever impacted. ICTs and the digital economy are huge trends that will affect organizations in several dimensions, such as how to communicate and improve performance. Thus, new perspectives and research are needed to identify the trends emerging in these fields. The Handbook of Research on Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Sustainability, and ICTs in the Post-COVID-19 Era broadens the exploitation of entrepreneurship, innovation, and ICTs in a global approach to draw attention to multidisciplinary perspectives of these contexts and their influence in modern organizations. In addition, the book explores and discusses, through innovative studies, case studies, systematic literature reviews, and reports, the key developments in digital entrepreneurship, circular economy and digitalization, digital business models, digital market and internationalization, digital economy, trends and challenges for organizations, digital entrepreneurial ecosystems, IS/ICT in organizations, social aspects of information systems, and more. This book is ideally intended for business managers, industry professionals, entrepreneurs, practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students looking for how business and organizations are going to shift and advance in the post-COVID-19 era.

Book excerpt: This book continues the ongoing debate about the need for alternative, interdisciplinary and heterodox approaches to teaching economics at university. It deals with challenges currently faced by economists, pursues an interdisciplinary approach to enhance collaboration with academics from disciplines other than economics, and analyses several questions and issues related to the 2007-08 financial crisis and the current Covid-19 emergency. The Covid pandemic has shown the flaws of the current neoliberal model and the inability of mainstream economic theory to address the problems created by the pandemic. The book engages with an academic audience interested in incorporating a wider range of economic approaches in their research and teaching, and with undergraduate and postgraduate economics students who are trying to understand the limitations of their current economics syllabi. The novelty of the book is the active involvement of undergraduate and postgraduate students who contribute to this volume with three chapters. The book will be of interest to a wide range of researchers, students and teachers interested in interdisciplinary and heterodox economics.

Book excerpt: Covid-19 outbreak has been the biggest health, social and economic emergency the world has ever faced since the Second World War. The pandemic has drastically changed, at least temporarily, the way society, businesses, and infrastructure systems operate. It has forced us to take a closer look at our woefully inadequate health infrastructure. It also led to the closure of educational institutions and turned formal learning into distance learning, posing a daunting challenge of demand for e-learning infrastructure. Social distancing policies (SDPs), encouraging people to stay home and limit gatherings, impacted wide range of services and industries. The telecommunications infrastructure, in particular, became a spotlight in view of its critical importance to keep businesses, governments, and societies connected and running in the period of economic and social disruption. The governments acknowledged a fact that “telecommunications, internet services, broadcasting, cable services, IT and IT-enabled services (ITeS)” are the essential services. Work from Home (WFH) seemed a positive experience, however with some adverse impact on the social, behavioural and physical factors. ICEIM 2022 is a humble contribution of SPM PDEU in terms of presenting a scholarly platform wherein abundance of ideas, answers, right questions, and complementing new learning’s are expected to emerge. The conference aims at discussing and deliberating various contemporary issues and challenge in the management of energy & infrastructure. The conference showcases seven tracks, five of which are Business & Technology, Finance, Human Resource, Marketing, and Project & Operations Management. Then in view of emerging scenario, two more tracks were added namely, Business Analytics and Data Science, Strategies & Entrepreneurship Management. We do expect to receive 80–90 research papers covering various tracks of the conference. We have so far got regular research papers, industry papers, Ph.D. research papers and students’ research articles. New research directions also constitute an agenda of a conference. This conference had three plenary sessions: a) Emerging Electrical Vehicle Ecosystem: Prospects and Impediments, b) Infrastructure Development in India: Policy Perspectives and Innovative Financing Initiatives, c) Energy Sector Management: Challenges and Strategies in Industry 4.0 era. All the plenary sessions of this conference have speakers mostly from the industry. We strongly believe that this International Conference will provide ample opportunities to all participants to disseminate new research ideas with industry professionals as well as the policy-makers. It is also believed that this International Conference will initiate new thought process towards the issues and challenges faced by the energy and infrastructure and will definitely add substantially to the existing domain of knowledge. We are pleased to present this proceeding of the International Conference to the academicians, researchers, industry practitioners and policy-makers who all have joined hands towards building the new knowledge development in the area of energy & infrastructure management.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relentless pursuit of economic growth is the defining characteristic of contemporary societies. Yet it benefits few and demands monstrous social and ecological sacrifice. Is there a viable alternative? How can we halt the endless quest to grow global production and consumption and instead secure socio-ecological conditions that support lives worth living for all? In this compelling book, leading experts Giorgos Kallis, Susan Paulson, Giacomo D’Alisa and Federico Demaria make the case for degrowth - living well with less, by living differently, prioritizing wellbeing, equity and sustainability. Drawing on emerging initiatives and enduring traditions around the world, they advance a radical degrowth vision and outline policies to shape work and care, income and investment that avoid exploitative and unsustainable practices. Degrowth, they argue, can be achieved through transformative strategies that allow societies to slow down by design, not disaster. Essential reading for all concerned citizens, policy-makers, and students, this book will be an important contribution to one of the thorniest and most pressing debates of our era.
