Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the Porsche 912 was introduced in the spring of 1965, some members of the staff were not quite happy with the new model, for it still had the four-cylinder engine of the 356 that was no longer in production, while the 911 already had the new six-cylinder, and had become a legend. However, the 911 was so expensive that many Porsche devotees in Germany could not, or did not want to, afford to buy it. For this reason, Porsche quickly needed a new, less expensive model so the 912 came into being, and from 1966 to 1969 about 32,000 vehicles were built. Apart from the Porsche 912 Coup (1965 to 1969) this book also presents the Porsche 912 Targa (1966 to 1969). Less well-known, but all the more intriguing, is the story of the Porsche 912E, built in 1976 just for the US market, and of which only 2099 specimens exist.

Book Synopsis Porsche 911: 50 Years by : Randy Leffingwell
Download or read book Porsche 911: 50 Years written by Randy Leffingwell and published by Motorbooks International. This book was released on 2013-10-20 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Porsche 911: 50 Years, bestselling author Randy Leffingwell celebrates a half-century of one of the world's premiere sports cars, focusing on the major themes that have defined Porsche's rear-engined wonder. Randy tells the whole story--design and development, racing and competition, engineering and technology, style and culture. All the iconic 911 models are included: the original 901 prototype that set the standard; the legendary RS models that made the little Porsche a dominant force on the world's racetracks; the infamous Turbo, the car that kept the performance flame alight during the dark, dismal decade of the 1970s; the fabled 959, the model that redefined the term "sports car"; the 993, last of the original air-cooled models; and the 996, 997, and 991, the liquid-cooled cars that brought the 911 into a new millennium. Beyond telling the story of the cars, Porsche 911: 50 years also spotlights the people behind them: Ferdinand "Butzi" Porsche, the son of legendary Porsche founder Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche, who co-designed the instantly recognizable 911 shape; Peter W. Schutz, the Porsche CEO who saved the 911 from extinction; and Dr. Helmuth Bott, the engineering genius behind many of the groundbreaking technologies that have defined the 911, including fuel injection, turbocharging, and all-wheel-drive. Leffingwell also tells the story of the 911 community--the clubs and culture that surround the car. Together, all of these facets make Porsche 911: 50 Years the most essential book in any Porsche owner or fan's library.

Download or read book Porsche 912, 1965-1976 written by R. M. Clarke and published by . This book was released on 2005-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the successful 356 Porsche introduced the new shaped 911 in 1965 but this was expensive. Porsche's answer was to put the engine from the 356 in to the 911 body and call it the 912; this came towards the end of 1965 when 356 production was phased out. Generally speaking all running changes made to the 911 were made to the 912 at the same time. The 912 was phased out at the end of 1969 to make way for the 914. The 912 was brought back in 1976 with a 4 cylinder engine and called a 912E. This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, specification and technical data, new model introductions, development, long-term appraisals, owner's survey, retrospective. Models covered include: * Targa * CoupT * 912E
