Abschließend werden Maßnahmen/Empfehlungen vorgestellt, die dem Trend der sinkenden Wahlbeteiligung entgegenwirken können.

Warum sollen wir eigentlich überhaupt noch wählen gehen? Es ändert sich doch sowieso nichts, oder? In der folgenden Arbeit werde ich mich mit der politischen Partizipation in Deutschland auseinandersetzen. Hierbei möchte ich deutlich machen, wie wichtig Partizipation für die Demokratie ist. Hierfür werde ich zunächst die Begriffe „Partizipation“ und „Demokratie“ erläutern. Anschließend werde ich die historische Entwicklung der Partizipation darlegen, bevor ich einige Probleme und Lösungsvorschläge der politischen Beteiligung diskutieren werde. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit beschäftige ich mich dann schwerpunktmäßig mit der Partizipation von Ausländern in Deutschland. Mit Ausländern sind hier in Deutschland lebende Menschen ohne deutsche Staatsbürgerschaft gemeint. Auch hier werde ich zunächst die aktuelle Situation darstellen und dann Probleme und Lösungsansätze diskutieren, bevor ich am Ende ein kurzes Fazit ziehe.

Looking at six German regimes across thirteen decades, this study enables you to see how and why some Germans have always chosen to be politically active (even under dictatorships); the enormous range of conceptions of political culture and democracy they have held; and how interactions among various factors undercut or facilitated democracy at different times. Michael L. Hughes also makes clear that recent surges of support for 'populism' and 'authoritarianism' have not come out of nowhere but are inherent in long-standing contestations about democracy and political citizenship. Hughes argues that democracy – in Germany or elsewhere – cannot be a story of adversity overcome which culminates in a happy ending; it is an ongoing, open-ended process whose ultimate outcome remains uncertain.
