Download or read book Nonlinear Laser Dynamics written by Kathy Lüdge and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-01-17 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A distinctive discussion of the nonlinear dynamical phenomena of semiconductor lasers. The book combines recent results of quantum dot laser modeling with mathematical details and an analytic understanding of nonlinear phenomena in semiconductor lasers and points out possible applications of lasers in cryptography and chaos control. This interdisciplinary approach makes it a unique and powerful source of knowledge for anyone intending to contribute to this field of research. By presenting both experimental and theoretical results, the distinguished authors consider solitary lasers with nano-structured material, as well as integrated devices with complex feedback sections. In so doing, they address such topics as the bifurcation theory of systems with time delay, analysis of chaotic dynamics, and the modeling of quantum transport. They also address chaos-based cryptography as an example of the technical application of highly nonlinear laser systems.

Book Synopsis Ultrafast Polarization Switching Dynamics in Vertical-cavity Surface-emitting Lasers by : Dean Richardson
Download or read book Ultrafast Polarization Switching Dynamics in Vertical-cavity Surface-emitting Lasers written by Dean Richardson and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interaction of circularly polarized femtosecond laser pulses with commercial vertical-cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) was studied using a pump-probe configuration in connection with an autocorrelation setup for time-resolving anticipated polarization changes in the VCSEL output. In addition, extensive theoretical modeling was performed to gain greater insights into the physical bases for output polarization in VCSELs. The objective of these efforts was to determine if VCSEL output polarization could be switched on a picosecond time scale, and if the polarization of multiple elements in a VCSEL array could be externally controlled and 'pinned' to a particular desired orientation. The theoretical modeling was completed. Experimental verification of the model could not be carried out because the VCSELs available at the time did not have high enough output power.

Book Synopsis Polarisation Properties of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers by : Abdulqader Qader

This book was released on 2014-09-19 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New approaches namely circularly polarised optical injection and circularly polarised optical feedback have been used experimentally for the first time. Using circularly polarised externally optical injection, the output polarisation of electrically pumped VCSELs can be strongly influenced. The linear polarisation of VCSELs emission can become circularly polarised for bias currents below or near the threshold current of the stand-alone VCSELs. In addition, using a new circularly polarised optical feedback scheme, the VCSELs emission was made to exhibit a degree of circular polarisation. The degree of circular polarisation depends on the feedback power ratio and the VCSEL bias current.

This book was released on 2003-09-04 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical, hands-on guidebook for the efficient modeling of VCSELs Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) are a unique type of semiconductor laser whose optical output is vertically emitted from the surface as opposed to conventional edge-emitting semiconductor lasers. Complex in design and expensive to produce, VCSELs nevertheless represent an already widely used laser technology that promises to have even more significant applications in the future. Although the research has accelerated, there have been relatively few books written on this important topic. Analysis and Design of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers seeks to encapsulate this growing body of knowledge into a single, comprehensive reference that will be of equal value for both professionals and academics in the field. The author, a recognized expert in the field of VCSELs, attempts to clarify often conflicting assumptions in order to help readers achieve the simplest and most efficient VCSEL models for any given problem. Highlights of the text include: * A clear and comprehensive theoretical treatment of VCSELs * Detailed derivations for understanding the operational principles of VCSELs * Mathematical models for the investigation of electrical, optical, and thermal properties of VCSELs * Case studies on the mathematical modeling of VCSELs and the implementation of simulation programs
Book Synopsis Semiconductor Lasers by : Junji Ohtsubo
Download or read book Semiconductor Lasers written by Junji Ohtsubo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-03 with total page 679 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the fascinating recent advances made concerning the chaos, stability and instability of semiconductor lasers, and discusses their applications and future prospects in detail. It emphasizes the dynamics in semiconductor lasers by optical and electronic feedback, optical injection, and injection current modulation. Applications of semiconductor laser chaos, control and noise, and semiconductor lasers are also demonstrated. Semiconductor lasers with new structures, such as vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers and broad-area semiconductor lasers, are intriguing and promising devices. Current topics include fast physical number generation using chaotic semiconductor lasers for secure communication, development of chaos, quantum-dot semiconductor lasers and quantum-cascade semiconductor lasers, and vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers. This fourth edition has been significantly expanded to reflect the latest developments. The fundamental theory of laser chaos and the chaotic dynamics in semiconductor lasers are discussed, but also for example the method of self-mixing interferometry in quantum-cascade lasers, which is indispensable in practical applications. Further, this edition covers chaos synchronization between two lasers and the application to secure optical communications. Another new topic is the consistency and synchronization property of many coupled semiconductor lasers in connection with the analogy of the dynamics between synaptic neurons and chaotic semiconductor lasers, which are compatible nonlinear dynamic elements. In particular, zero-lag synchronization between distant neurons plays a crucial role for information processing in the brain. Lastly, the book presents an application of the consistency and synchronization property in chaotic semiconductor lasers, namely a type of neuro-inspired information processing referred to as reservoir computing.
