Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of International Futurism is the first reference work ever to presents in a comparative fashion all media and countries in which the movement, initiated by F.T. Marinetti in 1909, exercised a particularly noteworthy influence. The handbook offers a synthesis of the state of scholarship regarding the international radiation of Futurism and its influence in some fifteen artistic disciplines and thirty-eight countries. While acknowledging the great achievements of the movement in the visual and literary arts of Italy and Russia, it treats Futurism as an international, multidisciplinary phenomenon that left a lasting mark on the manifold artistic manifestations of the early twentieth-century avant-garde. Hundreds of artists, who in some phase in their career absorbed Futurist ideas and stylistic devices, are presented in the context of their national traditions, their international connections and the media in which they were predominantly active. The handbook acts as a kind of multi-disciplinary, geographical encyclopaedia of Futurism and gives scholars with varying levels of experience a detailed overview of all countries and disciplines in which the movement had a major impact.

Book excerpt: This groundbreaking work examines four avant-garde groups that emerged in Poland towards the end of World War I; the Poznan Expressionists, the Young Yiddish, the Formists, and the Futurists. It is the first extensive study to bring the four groups together, and in doing so it establishes interconnections between them, and discusses their work in light of socio-political and cultural currents in Poland and wider Europe in the interwar period.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive history of Polish Art to appear outside Poland. Many areas of Poland boast works of Medieval art and Italian Renaissance. The refined 18th century was thoroughly imbued with the latest Italian, French and English fashions in design. The divided and dispossessed country of the 19th century then, developed its own national historical subjects and mythologies in painting which culminated in the work of the great artists of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. In the 20th Century Poland prided itself again in its participation in international Modernism, and Modern art reigned also for most of the decades after WW II., in church building and poster design. Compact yet comprehensive with 323 illustrations, with an extensive bibliography, geographical and historical maps this book serves as a work of reference as well as a guide. The lengthy Introduction takes on the history of Polish art history as a critical and academic discipline.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a broad, comprehensive overview of the contemporary state of the Gardzienice theatrical company and its evolution. Their most recent production, The Wedding, is taken as a focal point for a retrospective discussion on the company’s development. Premiered at the festival celebrating the 40th anniversary of the company, The Wedding echoes most of the major achievements of Staniewski’s stage language and his capacity of exploring and developing the performative potential of liveness. This study consists of essays by prominent practitioners and theoreticians of theatre, director’s notes, conversations with Staniewski and other company members, selected archival materials and substantial visual coverage. It promises to be of great interest to students and scholars across the fields of theatre and performance studies.

Book excerpt: A brilliantly illustrated survey of modernist photography in Central Europe, published in association with the National Gallery of Art. In the 1920s and 1930s, photography became an immense phenomenon across Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Austria, and Poland. Through magazines and books, in advertisements and at exhibitions, from amateur clubs to avant-garde schools, photographs emerged as a key vehicle of modern consciousness. This book presents the work of approximately one hundred individuals whose creations exemplify the potential of photography in Central Europe between the two World Wars. Foto brings together for the first time works by recognized masters such as the Russian El Lissitzky, the Hungarian László Moholy-Nagy, and the German Hannah Hóch—all of whom developed their photographic ideas in Germany—with contemporaries like Karel Teige and Jaromír Funke (Czechoslovakia), Kazimierz Podsadecki (Poland), Károly Escher (Hungary), and Trude Fleischmann (Austria), who are less well known today. Organized thematically, the book explores topics from photomontage and war to gender identity, modern living, and the spread of Surrealism. It shows the shared experience of modernity in the region, whereby recently founded nations and dismantled empires alike sought their place within the new world order established in the aftermath of World War I. The illustrations, drawn from more than seventy collections in America and abroad, include several previously unpublished works as well as many others never before available in high-quality reproductions.

This book was released on 2015 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Okres transformacji polityczno-ekonomicznej w Europie po upadku muru berlińskiego cechowały z jednej strony dążenia integracyjne w ramach Wspólnoty Europejskiej, z drugiej zaś odnowa zainteresowania paradygmatem regionalnej, narodowej i lokalnej tożsamości. Zjawiska glokalizacji, łagodzące skutki dominacji zachodnich wzorców kulturowych, stają się tu ważnym punktem odniesienia, umożliwiającym dowartościowanie lokalnej odrębności i kulturowej tradycji.
