Book Synopsis Piston Ring Pressure Distribution by : M. Kuhn
Download or read book Piston Ring Pressure Distribution written by M. Kuhn and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 774 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery and introduction of the internal combustion engine has resulted in a very rapid development in machines utilizing the action of a piston. Design has been limited by the internal components of the engine, which has been subjected to ever increasing thermal and mechanical stresses, Of these internal engine components, the piston and piston rings are of particular importance and the momentary position of engine development is not seldom dependent upon the development of both of the components, The piston ring is a well-known component and has been used in its present shape in the steam engine of the last century, Corresponding to its importance, the piston ring has been a rich field for creative activity and it is noteworthy that in spite of this the ring has maintained its shape through the many years. From the many and complicated designs which have been suggested as a packing between piston and cylinder wall hardly one suggestion has remained which does not resemble the original design of cast iron rectangular ring.

Book Synopsis Researches on the Piston Ring by : Keikiti Ebihara
Download or read book Researches on the Piston Ring written by Keikiti Ebihara and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No exact idea has yet been obtained as to how the obturation of gas between the piston and cylinder, the frictional resistance of the piston, and the wear of the cylinder wall are affected by the intensity and the distribution of the radial pressure of the piston ring. Consequently, the author has endeavored, by employing an apparatus of his own invention, to get an exact determination of the pressure distribution of the piston ring. By means of a newly devised ring tester, to which piezoelectricity of quartz was applied, the distribution of the radial pressure of many sample rings on the market was accurately determined.

Book Synopsis Modeling the Structural Behavior of the Piston Rings Under Different Boundary Conditions in Internal Combustion Engines by : Dian Xu
Download or read book Modeling the Structural Behavior of the Piston Rings Under Different Boundary Conditions in Internal Combustion Engines written by Dian Xu and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the process of designing internal combustion engine, piston ring plays an important role in fulfilling the requirements of camber gas sealing, friction reduction and lubrication oil consumption. The goal of this thesis is to have a better understanding of the ring behaviors under different working conditions in a structural level. This thesis is an extension of existing ring design tool. A model is built up to simulate the processes of changing ring states from one to another such as free or fit the ring. It revealed the sensitive characters of the piston ring tip; it expanded the field of application of the existing piston ring design tool; it also investigated the ring bore interaction in more conditions. This work removed the symmetric assumption in the existing tool. A new method that calculates ring free shape and ring bore contact force from ring ovality data is introduced for the first time. The analysis of ring bore interaction is widened. The model was applied to an industry ring design case. In this case it shows the free and fit procedure in this model is physically and mathematically reversible. It shows these procedures are direction independent. The contact force distribution changes when the ring is moving within the distorted bore. It also changes when the wetting or roughness situation is different. This model can calculate the ring free shape from asymmetric measured ovality data. It can also retrieve the desired contact force from it. The piston ring design tool is updated and implemented with these highly appreciable new features. This complete package has high efficiency and a wider practical field.

Book Synopsis The Hydrodynamic Lubrication of Near-infinite Sliders Such as Piston Rings by : Charles P. Boegli
Download or read book The Hydrodynamic Lubrication of Near-infinite Sliders Such as Piston Rings written by Charles P. Boegli and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lubrication of a piston ring is treated as though the ring were a rigid slider of finite width. An expression is obtained for pressure distribution which takes into account the effect of oil leakage from the ends of the ring and which has the convenient form of an end correction to the pressure-distribution formula for an infinite slider. The important formulas are summarized for convenience and two examples are included of their use in finding the pressure pattern over wide sliders. The method used in this paper is shown to be applicable to sliders of length-to-width ratios up to unity.
