Download or read book Handbook of Research on Water Sciences and Society written by Vaseashta, Ashok and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2022-03-11 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water supports three basic pillars of our life and survival: safety, security, and sustainability. Hence, it is extremely important to revisit the fundamental characteristics of water in order to discover additional information and the characteristics water has that will help uncover pathways to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) to reduce inequality and make cities and human settlements more inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. Clean water is a critical component to meet such goals. While the fundamental physical and chemical properties of water continue to reveal new aspects, it is critical that we review these properties in the context of several recent applications and by case studies. The Handbook of Research on Water Sciences and Society provides the basics of water science, ways to sense/detect and mitigate contaminants, several regional case studies, and societal aspects of water, including the human right to access water. The book serves as a comprehensive knowledge base on the latest fundamental and applied research and scientific innovations regarding the relationships between society and water resources, safe and sustainable use of water, watershed stewardship, industrial application, and public health awareness. Covering a wide range of topics, it is an ideal resource for researchers, professionals, policymakers, scientists, practitioners, instructors, and students.

Book Synopsis Advances in Drinking Water Purification by : Sibdas Bandyopadhyay
Download or read book Advances in Drinking Water Purification written by Sibdas Bandyopadhyay and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-01-17 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Drinking Water Purification: Small Systems and Emerging Issues captures the knowledge and impact on the performance of various types of water purification technologies and identities the need for further development with a view to carry forward the SDG global targets of achieving safe and affordable drinking water. The book bridges the knowledge gap between various types of treatability options which is essential for selection of suitable treatment systems and augmentation in the desirable levels of specific contaminants. It focuses on providing the scope of selecting location specific technology options by presenting multiple approaches for treatment of most crucial toxic contaminants/pathogens. In addition, it provides insights into the effect of nature of impurities and selection of treatment options on the global quality of drinking water, comprising its possible impacts on the efficiency of the techniques used and thus on the safety of drinking water. This information is indispensable in identifying the appropriate technology depending on the socioeconomic conditions to address the problem of decontamination in drinking water. - Discusses point-of-use devices for the removal of organic and inorganic contaminants from drinking water - Provides a multipronged approach to encourage, recognize, protect and commercialize available options for water purification - Includes case studies for field testing/pilot trials - Provides an in-depth analysis on the efficacy of small systems with an emphasis on the sustainability, socio-technical aspects and emerging issues
Book Synopsis A Study of Colloid-enhanced Ultrafiltration. Final Report, March 1984--December 1993 by :
Download or read book A Study of Colloid-enhanced Ultrafiltration. Final Report, March 1984--December 1993 written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past nine years of funding by DOE Office of Basic Energy Sciences, the authors have developed a whole family of methods under the umbrella of colloid-enhanced ultrafiltration techniques. These methods can be used for removal of either dissolved organics or multivalent ions from water or both simultaneously. They have gone from very fundamental studies of the ultrafiltration process to a field test using actual polluted groundwater. The orientation of this research has been the ultimate development of a workable, economical process. To do this, the authors have tried to understand the underlying fundamental phenomena involved in the separation and in potential solutions to technological bottlenecks and developed new scientific knowledge in the process. However, the thrust of the investigations have been focused on bringing the technology to a successful adoption by industry. This report summarizes the following: micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration; polyelectrolyte-enhanced ultrafiltration; ion-expulsion ultrafiltration; ligand-modified micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration; polyelectrolyte/surfactant-enhanced ultrafiltration, supporting research, and relation to energy. 61 refs.
