Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though PID control has a long history as much as its life force since Ziegler and Nichols published the empirical tuning rules in 1942, surprisingly, it has never been changed in the structure itself. The strength of PID control lies in the simplicity, lucid meaning, and clear e?ect. Though it must be a widely - cepted controller for mechanical control systems, it is still short of theoretical bases,e.g., optimality, performance tuning rules, automatic performance t- ing method, and output feedback PID control have not been clearly presented formechanicalcontrolsystems.Thesesubjectswillbethoroughlydiscussedin this book. There are many books of PID controller for the purpose of process control, but it is hard to ?nd a book on the characteristics of PID control for mechanical systems. In the ?rst place, when nonlinear optimal control theory is applied to mechanical systems, a class of Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) equations is derived as a result of optimization. There are two methods to solve a class of HJ eq- tions: a direct method using an approximation and inverse method ?nding the performance index from a class of HJ equations. Also, there are two control methods according to the objective: the set-point regulation control and t- jectory tracking control. The trajectory tracking control is basically di?erent from set-point regulation one in that the desired con?guration, velocity and acceleration pro?les according to time progress are added to the motion of mechanical system. This book is focusing on an inverse optimization method and the trajectory tracking control system.

Book Synopsis Motion Control of Underactuated Mechanical Systems by : Javier Moreno-Valenzuela
Download or read book Motion Control of Underactuated Mechanical Systems written by Javier Moreno-Valenzuela and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-11 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the first to present a unified perspective on the control of underactuated mechanical systems. Based on real-time implementation of parameter identification, this book provides a variety of algorithms for the Furuta pendulum and the inertia wheel pendulum, which are two-degrees-of-freedom mechanical systems. Specifically, this work addresses and solves the problem of motion control via trajectory tracking in one joint coordinate while another joint is regulated. Besides, discussions on extensions to higher degrees-of-freedom systems are given. The book, aimed at control engineers as well as graduate students, ranges from the problem of parameter identification of the studied systems to the practical implementation of sophisticated motion control algorithms. Offering real-world solutions to manage the control of underactuated systems, this book provides a concise tutorial on recent breakthroughs in the field, original procedures to achieve bounding of the error trajectories, convergence and gain tuning guidelines.

Book Synopsis Output Feedback Reinforcement Learning Control for Linear Systems by : Syed Ali Asad Rizvi
Download or read book Output Feedback Reinforcement Learning Control for Linear Systems written by Syed Ali Asad Rizvi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-29 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph explores the analysis and design of model-free optimal control systems based on reinforcement learning (RL) theory, presenting new methods that overcome recent challenges faced by RL. New developments in the design of sensor data efficient RL algorithms are demonstrated that not only reduce the requirement of sensors by means of output feedback, but also ensure optimality and stability guarantees. A variety of practical challenges are considered, including disturbance rejection, control constraints, and communication delays. Ideas from game theory are incorporated to solve output feedback disturbance rejection problems, and the concepts of low gain feedback control are employed to develop RL controllers that achieve global stability under control constraints. Output Feedback Reinforcement Learning Control for Linear Systems will be a valuable reference for graduate students, control theorists working on optimal control systems, engineers, and applied mathematicians.
Book Synopsis Control Reconfiguration of Dynamical Systems by : Thomas Steffen
Download or read book Control Reconfiguration of Dynamical Systems written by Thomas Steffen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-08-31 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reconfiguration, an approach for fault-tolerant control, involves changing the control structure in response to the fault. This monograph extends this idea to actuator faults and studies in detail the so-called virtual actuator approach. "Control Reconfiguration of Dynamical Systems" also introduces structural analysis as a tool for reconfiguration. Because a fault changes the structure of the system, the reconfiguration solution is sought on a structural level. Novel algorithms are presented to test for reconfigurability and to find a reconfiguration solution. A MATLAB toolbox is supplied, which contains the main algorithms and examples. The book addresses advanced engineering students, developers and researchers that have a specific interest in control reconfiguration.
Book Synopsis Advanced Strategies in Control Systems with Input and Output Constraints by : Sophie Tarbouriech
Download or read book Advanced Strategies in Control Systems with Input and Output Constraints written by Sophie Tarbouriech and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-07-13 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical, safety and technological constraints suggest that control actuators can neither provide unlimited amplitude signals nor unlimited speed of reaction. The techniques described in this book are useful for industrial applications in aeronautical or space domains, and in the context of biological systems. Such methods are well suited for the development of tools that help engineers to solve analysis and synthesis problems of control systems with input and output constraints.
Book Synopsis H-infinity Control and Estimation of State-multiplicative Linear Systems by : Eli Gershon
Download or read book H-infinity Control and Estimation of State-multiplicative Linear Systems written by Eli Gershon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-06-24 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiplicative noise appears in systems where the process or measurement noise levels depend on the system state vector. Such systems are relevant, for example, in radar measurements where larger ranges involve higher noise level. This monograph embodies a comprehensive survey of the relevant literature with basic problems being formulated and solved by applying various techniques including game theory, linear matrix inequalities and Lyapunov parameter-dependent functions. Topics covered include: convex H2 and H-infinity norms analysis of systems with multiplicative noise; state feedback control and state estimation of systems with multiplicative noise; dynamic and static output feedback of stochastic bilinear systems; tracking controllers for stochastic bilinear systems utilizing preview information. Various examples which demonstrate the applicability of the theory to practical control engineering problems are considered; two such examples are taken from the aerospace and guidance control areas.

Book Synopsis Hybrid Estimation of Complex Systems by : Michael W. Hofbaur
Download or read book Hybrid Estimation of Complex Systems written by Michael W. Hofbaur and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-06-09 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides a tool-set for hybrid estimation that can successfully monitor the behavior of complex artifacts with a large number of possible operational and failure modes such as production plants, automotive or aeronautic systems, and autonomous robots. For this purpose, ideas from the fields of System Theory and Artificial Intelligence are taken and hybrid estimation is reformulated as a search problem. This allows to focus the estimation onto highly probably operational modes, without missing symptoms that might be hidden among the noise in the system. Additionally a novel approach to continue hybrid estimation in the presence of unknown behavioral modes and to automate system analysis and synthesis tasks for on-line operation are presented. This leads to a flexible model-based hybrid estimation scheme for complex artifacts that robustly copes with unforeseen situations.
