Pickens County was formed from a part of Tuscaloosa County, while Alabama was still a Territory. Alabama was admitted into the Union on March 2, 1819.The County of Pickens was made a county in the second Session of the new state- December 19, 1820. The first Court was held in the house of Jacob Dansby, near Pickensville, which town remained the county seat until 1830 when Carrollton was made the permanent seat. The first election preecinet was held at the house of Cox, near Coldfire Creek, others were established as the County grew, and the next voting place was at the house of Charles M.Holland.
