Book Synopsis Problems And Solutions On Thermodynamics And Statistical Mechanics (Second Edition) by : Swee Cheng Lim
Download or read book Problems And Solutions On Thermodynamics And Statistical Mechanics (Second Edition) written by Swee Cheng Lim and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a compilation of carefully selected questions at the PhD qualifying exam level, including many actual questions from Columbia University, University of Chicago, MIT, State University of New York at Buffalo, Princeton University, University of Wisconsin and the University of California at Berkeley over a twenty-year period. Topics covered in this book include the laws of thermodynamics, phase changes, Maxwell-Boltzmann statistics and kinetic theory of gases. This latest edition has been updated with more problems and solutions and the original problems have also been modernized, excluding outdated questions and emphasizing those that rely on calculations. The problems range from fundamental to advanced in a wide range of topics on thermodynamics and statistical physics, easily enhancing the student's knowledge through workable exercises. Simple-to-solve problems play a useful role as a first check of the student's level of knowledge whereas difficult problems will challenge the student's capacity on finding the solutions.
Book Synopsis Customized Complete Statistical Physics by : Frederick Reif
Download or read book Customized Complete Statistical Physics written by Frederick Reif and published by McGraw-Hill Science, Engineering & Mathematics. This book was released on 1998-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This last volume of the Berkeley Physics Course is devoted to the study of large-scale systems consisting of many atoms or molecules: thus it provides an introduction to the subjects of statistical mechanics, kinetic theory, thermo- dynamics, and heat. The approach is not patterned upon the historical development of these subjects and does not pro- ceed along conventional lines. The aim has been to adopt a modern point of view and to show, in as systematic and simple way as possible, how the basic notions of atomic theory lead to a conceptual framework capable of describing and predicting the properties of macroscopic systems.
Download or read book Complex Networks written by Eli Ben-Naim and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-09-01 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is devoted to the applications of techniques from statistical physics to the characterization and modeling of complex networks. The first two parts of the book concern theory and modeling of networks, the last two parts survey applications to a wide variety of natural and artificial networks. The tutorial reviews that form this book are aimed at students and newcomers to the field, and will also constitute a modern and comprehensive reference for experts. To this aim, all contributions have been carefully peer-reviewed not only for scientific content but also for self-consistency and readability.
Book Synopsis Statistical Mechanics and Stochastic Thermodynamics by : David T. Limmer
Download or read book Statistical Mechanics and Stochastic Thermodynamics written by David T. Limmer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-08 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of statistical mechanics is the best link we have between the imperceptible world of atoms and molecules and our common macroscopic experience. This textbook provides the fundamental rules and relationships of statistical mechanics. Through it, students will learn how to deduce the properties of materials from an underlying understanding of the behaviour of its constituent building blocks. The textbook covers the basics of systems at rest, as well as those directly manipulated. The former, also known as equilibrium statistical mechanics, is reviewed in the context of recent results in probability theory, with emphasis on solvation phenomena and phase transitions. The latter, nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, has seen tremendous advancement in the last few years, and is integrated into a textbook for the first time. These latter chapters emphasize rates of rare events like chemical reactions as well as single molecule experiments. Throughout the book, distinctions between heat and work, as well as notions of trajectory ensembles reflect the incorporation of stochastic thermodynamics into the modern language of statistical mechanics. Ideas of scaling, the concentration of measures, and generalized theories of ensemble equivalence represent the important contribution of the mathematics of large deviations.
