Download or read book Physiologic Optics written by M. Tscherning and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Physiologic Optics: Dioptrics of the Eye, Functions of the Retina, Ocular Movements and Binocular Vision Physiologic Optics is a science which, on the one side, touches the highest philosophic problems of the human mind and, on the other side, keeps in intimate contact with the practical work of the ophthalmologist, who, in his daily work of refraction, can be guided safely only by its principles. Many are the text-books on this important subject. Some are mere compilations of older facts and some are written by men that soar so high above the field of the practical work of the ophthalmologist that their abstract scientific investigations lose almost all contact with these practical workers. The present book is neither a mere compilation nor an abstract theoretical investigation, but a collection of all the old and new scientific facts that have any bearing on the practical work of the oculist and optician. It is written by a man who lately has probably done more original work in this line than any other since Helmholtz and Donders, and who, furthermore, has been in constant contact with practical ophthalmology. - Dr. M. Tscherning, who was born in Denmark in 1854, studied ophthalmology at Copenhagen under the philosophic mind of Hansen Grut. Since 1884 he has been adjunct-director of the laboratory of ophthalmology at the Sorbonne, where, since the deplorable disability of Javal, he himself has performed the functions of the director. This laboratory, which was founded in 1876 for Javal, after he had become widely known by his translation of the Physiologic Optics of Helmholtz, has given a new impetus to this science in France. Here Tscherning has made all his important original investigations, especially on ophthalmometry, the catoptric images of the eye, astigmatism, spherical aberration and accommodation. Book Synopsis The Physiology of The Eye by : Hugh Davson
Download or read book The Physiology of The Eye written by Hugh Davson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Physiology of the Eye, Third Edition reviews major advances in the physiology of the eye, including improvements in photochemical and electrophysiological techniques. In particular, the successful application of modern microelectrode techniques to the recording of activity at all stages in the visual pathway is considered. This edition is organized into five sections and begins with an overview of the vegetative physiology and biochemistry of the eye, emphasizing the aqueous humor and the intraocular pressure, the vitreous body, cornea, and lens. The following chapters discuss the mechanism of vision, including the electrophysiology of the retina, and some fundamental principles of ocular physiology. An account of the important advances made possible by the application of modern methods to the analysis of the eye movements, pupillary function, and so on is also given. The remaining sections focus on the theoretical and practical foundation laid by the work of classical research workers in the realm of physiological optics. This book is intended for students and researchers in fields ranging from ocular science to physiology and biochemistry.

Book Synopsis Visual Optics and the Optical Space Sense by : Hugh Davson
Download or read book Visual Optics and the Optical Space Sense written by Hugh Davson and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Eye, Volume 4: Visual Optics and the Optical Space Sense provides a well-integrated and authoritative account of the physiology of the eye. The book is organized into two parts. Part I on visual optics begins with a discussion of the branches of optics and the basic principles of geometrical optics. This is followed by separate chapters on refraction at plane and spherical surfaces; the thin spherical lens in air; reflexion at plane and spherical surfaces; the astigmatic lens; aberrations of optical images; ametropia and its correction; and retinoscopy and ophthalmoscopy. Part II on the optical space sense includes discusses of objective and subjective space; spatial localization according to direction; perception of distance and of size; spatial localization through binocular vision; special topics in binocular spatial localization; and ocular dominance and binocular retinal rivalry. Whilst the emphasis has been on readability rather than exhaustiveness, the various accounts are sufficiently well documented to make the treatise valuable not only to teachers in physiology, psychology and ophthalmology, but also to research workers in all branches of ocular physiology.
Book Synopsis Normal Binocular Vision by : David Stidwill
Download or read book Normal Binocular Vision written by David Stidwill and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Binocular vision, i.e. where both eyes are used together, is a fundamental component of human sight. It also aids hand-eye co-ordination, and the perception of the self within the environment. Clinical anomalies pose a wide range of problems to the sufferer, but normal binocular operation must first be understood before the eye specialist can assess and treat dysfunctions. This is a major new textbook for students of optometry, orthoptics and ophthalmology, and also of psychology. Chapters span such key topics as binocular summation, fusion, the normal horopter, anatomy of the extra-ocular muscles, oculomotor control, binocular integration and depth perception. Fully illustrated throughout, the book includes self-assessment exercises at the end of each chapter, and sample experiments in binocular vision functioning.
