Book Synopsis Physicochemical Methods of Mineral Analysis by : A. Nicol
Download or read book Physicochemical Methods of Mineral Analysis written by A. Nicol and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has developed from a short residential course organised by the Department of Minerals Engineering and the Department of Extra Mural Studies of the University of Birmingham. The course was concerned mainly with physical methods of analysis of minerals and mineral products, and particular regard was given to 'non-destructive' methods, with special emphasis on newly available techniques but with a review of older methods and their recent developments included therein. Mineral analysis is obviously of great importance in all the stages of mineral exploration, processing, and utilisation. Selection of a method for a particular mineral or mineral product will depend upon a number of factors, primarily whether an elementary analysis or a phase or structure analysis is required. It will also depend upon the accuracy required. The chapters in the book covering the different methods show the range of useful applicability of the methods considered and should prove valuable as an aid or methods for a given set of circumstances. in selecting a suitable method The book, referring as it does to the majority of the instrumental methods available today (as well as, for comparison, a useful contribution on the place of classical wet chemical analysis) will be valuable to the student as well as to those analysts, research workers, and process engineers who are concerned with the winning, processing, and utilisation of minerals and mineral products.

Book Synopsis Physico-Chemical Analysis of Molten Electrolytes by : Vladimir Danek †
Download or read book Physico-Chemical Analysis of Molten Electrolytes written by Vladimir Danek † and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-09-14 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physico-Chemical Analysis of Molten Electrolytes includes selected topics on the measurement and evaluation of physico-chemical properties of molten electrolytes. It describes the features, properties, and experimental measurement of different physico-chemical properties of molten salt systems used as electrolytes for different metal production, metallic layer deposition, as a medium for reactions in molten salts. The physico-chemical properties such as phase equilibria, density (molar volume), enthalpy (calorimetry), surface tension, vapor pressure, electrical conductivity, viscosity, etc. are the most important parameters of electrolytes needed for technological use. For each property the theoretical background, experimental techniques, as well as examples of the latest knowledge and the processing of most important salt systems will be given. The aim of Physico-Chemical Analysis of Molten Electrolytes is not only to present the state of the art on different properties of molten salts systems and their measurement, but also to present the possibilities of modeling molten salt systems, to be able to forecast the properties of an electrolyte mixture from the properties of the pure components in order to avoid experimentally demanding, and in most cases also expensive measurements. This book fills a substantial gap in this field of science. Also documententing the latest research in molten salts chemistry and brings new results and new insights into the study of molten salts systems using the results of X-ray diffraction and XAFS methods, Raman spectroscopy, and NMR measurements. * This book fills a substantial gap in this field of science* Serves as a invaluable reference for all people working in the field of molten salts chemistry* Describes fundamentals of the various properties of molten electrolytes
Book Synopsis Electron Spin Resonance of Metal Complexes by : Teh Yen
Download or read book Electron Spin Resonance of Metal Complexes written by Teh Yen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a number of years, there existed a real gap between the science of metal complexes and that of electron spin resonance (ESR). Simple reasons account for this fact. At a certain stage of development the scientists engaged in investigations of metal complexes did not have access to ESR instrumen tation, while on the other hand, ESR theoreticians rarely had an interest in exploring the chemical applications of metal complexes. More recently chemical physicists have started to make intensive efforts to bridge the gap by applying the ESR technique to a wide range of chemical problems, particularly those involving transition metals and their complexes. In large measure the successes of the theory of the electronic structure of transition metal ions are due to the comprehensive and precise results of ESR studies by chemical physicists. On the other hand, chemists also seem to have realized lately that an immense amount of information can be obtained from ESR data. It is obvious, therefore, that a symposium bringing together the various disciplines was necessary, and there was little doubt that in such a symposium a considerable advantage could be gained from the exchange of information among scientists with different research interests. Consequently, a sym posium on "ESR of Metal Chelates" was held on March 4, 1968, at the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, at the Cleveland Convention Center.
