Book Synopsis Photons and Continuum States of Atoms and Molecules by : Carla Guidotti

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1981 there has been an attempt in Europe to organize a series of small meetings/workshops/tavole rotonde with the aim of bringing together physi cists and chemists interested in problems concerning atoms or molecules in teracting with external photons where the continua are investigated. The number of problems that fall into this category turns out to be vast. However, it is not possible to make a strict separation into problems con cerning atomic and molecular collisions and those related to the usual spec troscopy. This admixture of two disciplines, discussions on the role of photons and on the interaction of external electromagnetic fields with the continuum provided a central motivation for these workshops. The fourth of this series of meetings was held at Cortona between June 16 and 20, 1986. It was attended by about 100 researchers in the field and there were 43 presentations, all having equal time. These talks form the subject matter of this volume. The idea of publishing the proceedings of these meetings is not new. It allows one to have small meetings in which the subject matter can be discussed at length in a lively atmosphere. However, after the meeting is over, the speakers can collect their thoughts and produce articles in which the results of their interaction with the other participants can be incorporated.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO-Advanced Study Institute on "Collision Theory for Atoms and Molecules" was made possible by the main sponsorship and the generous financial support of the NATO Scientific Affairs Division in Brussels. Belgium. Special thanks are therefore due to the late Dr. Mario Di Lullo and to Dr. Craig Sinclair. of this Division. who repeatedly advised us and kept us aware of administrative requirements. The Institute was also assisted by the financial aid from the Scientific Committees for Chemistry and Physics of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). The search and selection of a suitable location. one which participants would easily reach from any of Italy's main airports, was ably aided by the Personnel of the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa and made possible by its Directorship. Our thanks therefore go to its present director. Prof. L. Radicati. and to its past director. Prof. E. Vesentini who first agreed to our use of their main building in Pisa and of their palatial facilities at the "Palazzone" in Cortona.

Book Synopsis Atomic Spectra and Collisions in External Fields by : K.T. Taylor
Download or read book Atomic Spectra and Collisions in External Fields written by K.T. Taylor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers associated with the conference "Atomic Spectra and Collisions in External Fields II", that took place July 30-31 1987 at Royal Holloway and Beford New College. The first meeting of this name was held at the National Bureau of Standards in Gaithersburg, Maryland in 1984, and, if any tradition can yet be said to have been established in the series, it is that the proceedings be written after the conference. We hope thereby to preserve some impression of the discussions that took place, which in both cases were vigorous and unihibited. Both meetings happen to have convened in proximity to major developments in the field. At the time of the first conference, results of experimental measurements of dielectronic recombination in electron ion beams were beginning to appear. These showed large discrepancies with theoretical calculations, which were attributed to the effects of rather weak electric fields on the highly-excited states that mediate the recombination process. This conjecture gave rise to widespread concern in the plasma physics community that the representation of dielectronic recombination in existing plasma models, in which it plays an important role in energy and ionization balance, might be seriously in error due to neglect of the effects of electric and magnetic fields. The subject of field effects on recombination processes was thus a major focus of the 1984 meeting.
Book Synopsis Kinetic Problems of Non-linear Spectroscopy by : Sergeĭ Glebovich Rautian
Download or read book Kinetic Problems of Non-linear Spectroscopy written by Sergeĭ Glebovich Rautian and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1991 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to theoretical nonlinear spectroscopy of atomic and molecular gases with special emphasis placed on the analysis of dynamic and stochastic kinetic processes. The entire presentation is based on quantum kinetic equation for one-particle density matrix with generalized collision integral of Boltzmann type. Consistent sequential analysis of spectroscopic, optical and gas kinetics phenomena is universally believed to be possible only on the basis of this equation. Apparatus of quantum kinetic equation has been significantly developed over the last two decades in connection with problems of nonlinear spectroscopy and gas kinetics in the field of laser radiation. Engineers and research workers, students and post-graduates in the fields of optics, spectroscopy, quantum electronics and physical kinetics will welcome this book.
Book Synopsis Fundamental Processes in Atomic Collision Physics by : H. Kleinpoppen
Download or read book Fundamental Processes in Atomic Collision Physics written by H. Kleinpoppen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 783 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Proceedings of the Advanced study Institute on Fundamental Processes in Atomic Collision Physics (Santa Flavia, Italy, September 10-21, 1984) are dedicated to the memory of Sir Harrie r-1assey, whose scientific achievements and life are reviewed herein by Sir David Bates. At the first School on the above topic (Maratea, September 1983, Volume 103 in this series), Harrie Massey presented the introductory lectures, summarized the entire lecture program, and presented an outlook on future developments in atomic collision physics. In an after-dinner speech, Massey recalled personal reminiscences and historical events with regard to atomic collision physics, to which he had contributed by initiating pioneering work and by stimulating and surveying this branch of physics over a period of almost six decades. Participants in the Maratea School will always remember Harrie Massey as a charming and wonderful person who was most pleased to discuss with everyone--students, postdoctorals, and senior scientists--any topic in atomic collision physics. Harrie Massey was a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the 1984 Santa Flavia School. Before his death he expressed his interest in attending this second School devoted to the presentation of recent developments and highlights in atomic collision physics. It is the desire of all authors to honor Harrie Massey with their contributions in these Proceedings.

This book was released on 1986-06-01 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems and tools of computer algebra (Like AXIOM, Derive, FORM, Mathematica, Maple, Mupad, REDUCE, Macsyma…) let us manipulate extremely complex algebraic formulae symbolically on a computer. Contrary to numerics these computations are exact and there is no loss of accuracy. After decades of research and development, these tools are now becoming as indispensable in Science and Engineering as traditional number crunching already is.The ZiF'94 workshop is amongst the first devoted specifically to applications of computer algebra (CA) in Science and Engineering. The book documents the state of the art in this area and serves as an important reference for future work.
