Book Synopsis New and Future Developments in Catalysis by : Steven L Suib
Download or read book New and Future Developments in Catalysis written by Steven L Suib and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New and Future Developments in Catalysis is a package of seven books that compile the latest ideas concerning alternate and renewable energy sources and the role that catalysis plays in converting new renewable feedstock into biofuels and biochemicals. Both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts and catalytic processes will be discussed in a unified and comprehensive approach. There will be extensive cross-referencing within all volumes. The use of solar energy during various catalytic chemical processes for the production of an array of chemical products is the theme of this volume. Photocatalysis is a topic of increasing importance due to its essential role in many of today's environmental and energy source problems. The use of solar energy for catalytic reactions results in a carbon dioxide–neutral process. All photocatalytic processes and the future developments in this area are discussed, including an economic analysis of the various processes. - Offers in-depth coverage of all catalytic topics of current interest and outlines future challenges and research areas - A clear and visual description of all parameters and conditions, enabling the reader to draw conclusions for a particular case - Outlines the catalytic processes applicable to energy generation and design of green processes

Book Synopsis Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Production by : Roel van de Krol
Download or read book Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Production written by Roel van de Krol and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-09 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Production describes the principles and materials challenges for the conversion of sunlight into hydrogen through water splitting at a semiconducting electrode. Readers will find an analysis of the solid state properties and materials requirements for semiconducting photo-electrodes, a detailed description of the semiconductor/electrolyte interface, in addition to the photo-electrochemical (PEC) cell. Experimental techniques to investigate both materials and PEC device performance are outlined, followed by an overview of the current state-of-the-art in PEC materials and devices, and combinatorial approaches towards the development of new materials. Finally, the economic and business perspectives of PEC devices are discussed, and promising future directions indicated. Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Production is a one-stop resource for scientists, students and R&D practitioners starting in this field, providing both the theoretical background as well as useful practical information on photoelectrochemical measurement techniques. Experts in the field benefit from the chapters on current state-of-the-art materials/devices and future directions.

Book Synopsis Semiconductor Electrodes by : Harry O. Finklea
Download or read book Semiconductor Electrodes written by Harry O. Finklea and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1988 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semiconductors have been studied as electrodes in electrochemical systems since the mid-1950's. However, it was not until the 1970's that the search for alternative energy sources, especially solar energy, led to an enormous expansion in semiconductor electrode research. One attractive option for solar energy conversion is the semiconductor liquid-junction solar cell, which can be designed to produce either electrical power or fuel such as hydrogen. Consequently the number of papers published concerning semiconductor electrodes has rapidly increased. Previous books have principally focused on the underlying theory (largely from solid state physics) and principles of operation of all semiconductor electrodes. It therefore seemed both useful and appropriate to review the field with the intention of collating information for each semiconductor or family of semiconductors, with contributions from authors who are all recognized experts in their field. Each chapter is devoted to critically assessing the recent literature on a particular semiconductor or family of semiconductors.
