Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A guidebook designed to help governments and industry to design and establish appropriate codes of good practice for the refrigeration servicing sector that are in compliance with the Montreal Protocol. Covers how CFCs are used in developing countries and suggests implementation methods, including working with industry and trade associations, service workshops and technicians, system owners and operators, and manufacturers. Also includes 13 specific elements of codes of good practice, from redesign of refrigeration systems to training and certification. Includes many sample forms and worksheets. Book Synopsis Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps Technical Options Committee 2002 by : United Nations Environment Programme
Download or read book Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps Technical Options Committee 2002 written by United Nations Environment Programme and published by UNEP/Earthprint. This book was released on 2003-09 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2002 assessment report, produced under the Montreal Protocol on ozone depleting substances, finds that technical progress has been made by the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump industry to comply with requirements to phase out CFCs and in several applications, HCFCs as well. However, there is still a significant amount of installed refrigeration equipment still using CFCs and HCFCs, and so service demand remains high and is best minimised by preventive service, containment, retrofit, recovery and recycling.
Book Synopsis Stratospheric Ozone Depletion by : Larry Parker
Download or read book Stratospheric Ozone Depletion written by Larry Parker and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For two decades, scientists have been warning that chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and halons (bromine-containing fluorocarbons) may deplete the stratospheric ozone shield that screens out some of the Sun's harmful ultraviolet rays and thus regulates the amounts which reach the Earth's surface. CFCs have been used as refrigerants, solvents, foam blowing agents, and outside the United States, as aerosol propellants; Halons are used primarily as fire-fighting agents. Increased radiation could result in an increase in skin cancers, suppression of the human immune system, and decreased productivity of terrestrial and aquatic organisms, including some commercially important crops. This book deals with implementation, policy issues and phase out of methyl bromide. In September 1987, 47 countries (including the United States) agreed to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, which first required controls on the world's consumption of ozone depleting substances. Over 160 countries have signed on to the Protocol, whose phasedown schedule for developed countries was accelerated twice and completely phased out Halon production at the end of 1994 and CFC production at the end of 1995. The Protocol's coverage has also been extended to include hydrochlorofluorocarbons and other chlorine- and bromine-containing substances such as some solvents and methyl bromide, a widely used soil fumigant.

This book was released on 2018-08-31 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Protection of Stratospheric Ozone - Adjustments to the Allowance System for Controlling HCFC Production, Import, and Export (US Environmental Protection Agency Regulation) (EPA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Protection of Stratospheric Ozone - Adjustments to the Allowance System for Controlling HCFC Production, Import, and Export (US Environmental Protection Agency Regulation) (EPA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 EPA is adjusting the allowance system controlling U.S. consumption and production of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). This action allocates production and consumption allowances for HCFC-22 and HCFC-142b, as well as other HCFCs for which allowances were not allocated previously, for the control periods 2010-2014. This action also establishes baselines for HCFCs for which EPA had not established baselines previously. The HCFC allowance system is part of EPA's Clean Air Act program to phase out ozone-depleting substances to protect the stratospheric ozone layer. Protection of the stratospheric ozone layer helps reduce rates of skin cancer and cataracts, as well as other health and ecological effects. The U.S. is obligated under the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (Montreal Protocol) to limit HCFC consumption and production to a specific level and, using stepwise reductions, to decrease the specific level culminating in a complete HCFC phaseout in 2030. The next major milestone, to occur on January 1, 2010, is a 75 percent reduction from the aggregate U.S. HCFC baseline for production and consumption. The allowances allocated in this action ensure compliance with the international stepwise reduction, consistent with the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. In addition, this action amends the regulatory provisions concerning allowances for HCFC production for developing countries' basic domestic needs to be consistent with the September 2007 adjustments to the Montreal Protocol. Also, this action provides the Agency's interpretation of a self-effectuating ban on introduction into interstate commerce and use of HCFCs contained in section 605(a) of the Clean Air Act and amends existing regulatory provisions to facilitate implementation of the statutory requirements.
