Book excerpt: Molecular Pharmacology: The Mode of Action of Biologically Active Compound, Volume II presents the mode of action of bioactive compounds on a molecular level, which concerns a wide variety of pharmacodynamic agents. This book discusses in detail the actions of odorants, the chemotherapeutics used in the fight against cancer, as well as the interactions of substrates and enzymes. Comprised of three parts, this volume starts with an overview of the mode of action of odorants and explores the anatomical and histochemical location of the receptors. This text then explains the molecular processes that are involved olfaction. Other chapters consider the different types of chemotherapeutics used against cancer, such as the antimetabolites and radiomimetics. The final chapter deals with the structure of chemical groups that constitute the receptors and the active sites on the enzymes. This book is a valuable resource for pharmacologists and clinical researchers interested in the study of bioactive compounds.

This comprehensive textbook is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of advanced concepts in pharmacology, focusing on various therapeutic agents and their mechanisms of action. In this book, we delve into the intricate molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the pharmacological actions of a wide array of drugs. From endocrine pharmacology to chemotherapy, gastrointestinal pharmacology, immunopharmacology, and free radicals pharmacology, each section offers detailed insights into the pharmacotherapy of various diseases. The syllabus covers a broad spectrum of topics, starting with Endocrine Pharmacology, where we explore the molecular and cellular mechanisms of hormones such as growth hormone, prolactin, thyroid hormones, insulin, and sex hormones. Additionally, we examine drugs used in the treatment of endocrine disorders, including anti-thyroid drugs, oral hypoglycemic agents, oral contraceptives, and corticosteroids. Moving on to Chemotherapy, we delve into the cellular and molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial agents, including ß-lactams, aminoglycosides, quinolones, and macrolide antibiotics. Furthermore, we discuss antifungal, antiviral, and anti-TB drugs, along with strategies to combat drug resistance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent interest in the pharmacology of the skin and the treatment of its diseases has come about for two reasons. The first is a realisation that many aspects of pharmacology can be studied as easily in human skin as in animal models, where they may be more relevant to human physiology and disease. Examples of this are the action of various vasoactive agents and the isolation of mediators of inflammation after UV irradiation and antigen-induced dermatitis. The second reason is the fortuitous realisation that a pharmacological approach to the treatment of skin disease need not always await the full elucidation of aetiology and mechanism. For example, whilst the argument continued un resolved as to whether the pilo-sebaceous infection which constitutes acne was due to a blocked duct or to a simple increase in sebum production, 13-cis retinoic acid, was found quite by chance totally to ablate the disease; again, whilst cyclosporin, fresh from its triumphs in organ transplantation, has been found able to suppress the rash of psoriasis, it has resuscitated the debate on aetiology. We are therefore entering a new era in which the pharmacology and clinical pharmacology of skin are being studied as a fascinating new way of exploring questions of human physiology and pharmacology as well as for the development and study of new drugs, use of which will improve disease control and at the same time help to define pathological mechanisms.

Book excerpt: "Advanced Pharmacology" aimed to deliver such topics of drugs which are very important to be know by any healthcare professional, but found rarely in any books or library. Complete idea of publishing it, is to provide readers a good platform to study the rare topics in pharmacology. This book is recommended for MBBS, MD (Pharmacology), DM (Clinical Pharmacology), Pharm D., M. Pharm and B. Pharm students or any other healthcare professionals. The book is a strong learning aid for post graduate teaching and also helps clinicians or other heathcare professionals understand the pharmacological basis of pharmacotherapeutics through thematic flow diagrams and logical explanations for specialized topics in pharmacology to ease the reading. Book is divided into three sections; Initial two sections of the book deal with basic aspects of clinical pharmacology, regulation and therapeutics; also address the most recent advances in the field. Third section is thoroughly updated to provide readers with an ideal reference that covers wide range of neglected but important topics. It also provides a rich collection of material on critical areas such as medication errors, rational use of drugs, self medication, drug compliance etc. Several other essential regulations framed in India for drugs have been incorporated in the chapters drug policy, drug pricing, orphan drugs etc. Further, critical issues in pharmacology like usage of drugs in pregnancy, renal and hepatic complications, drug-drug interactions etc. are also addressed in a point specific manner to simplify the language to readers. Emerging topics in medical fields like regenerative medicine, nanomedicine, electronic prescribing (e-Rx), drug surveillance systems like Pharmacovigilance, Haemovigilance, Materiovigilance etc. are well explained. Hope, "Advanced Pharmacology", will fulfill the demand and need of healthcare professionals by covering the important and rare topics on drugs. Section - I 1. Essential Medicines 2. Book excerpt: Pharmacokinetics and Toxicokinetic Considerations explains the central principles, cutting-edge methodologies, and incipient thought processes applied to toxicology research. As part of the Advances in Pharmaceutical Product Development and Research series, the book provides expert literature on dose, dosage regimen and dose adjustment, medication errors, and approaches for its prevention, the concept of pharmacotherapy, and managed care in clinical interventions. It expounds on strategies to revamp the pharmacokinetics of the drug and the factors affecting the stability of drugs and their metabolites in biological matrices. Finally, the book offers focused elaborations on various bioanalytical methods for bioavailability and bioequivalence assessment and integrates the wide-ranging principles and concepts shared by toxicokinetics and pharmacodynamics as mutual crosstalk rather than isolated observations. It will be helpful to researchers and advanced students working in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, biotechnology, food, and related industries including toxicologists, pharmacists, and pharmacologists. - Allows readers to systematically integrate up-to-date research findings into their laboratory work - Presents focused explorations of bioanalytical methods for bioavailability and bioequivalence assessment - Provides clinical applications of concepts
