Book Synopsis Atom-Photon Interactions by : Claude Cohen-Tannoudji
Download or read book Atom-Photon Interactions written by Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1998-03-23 with total page 691 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atom-Photon Interactions: Basic Processes and Applications allows the reader to master various aspects of the physics of the interaction between light and matter. It is devoted to the study of the interactions between photons and atoms in atomic and molecular physics, quantum optics, and laser physics. The elementary processes in which photons are emitted, absorbed, scattered, or exchanged between atoms are treated in detail and described using diagrammatic representation. The book presents different theoretical approaches, including: Perturbative methods The resolvent method Use of the master equation The Langevin equation The optical Bloch equations The dressed-atom approach Each method is presented in a self-contained manner so that it may be studied independently. Many applications of these approaches to simple and important physical phenomena are given to illustrate the potential and limitations of each method.
Book Synopsis Electromagnetic Interactions of Hadrons by : A. Donnachie
Download or read book Electromagnetic Interactions of Hadrons written by A. Donnachie and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While electromagnetic interactions were first used to probe the structure of elementary particles more than 20 years ago, their importance has only become fully evident in the last 10 years. In the resonance region, photo production experiments have provided clear evidence for simple quark model ideas, and confirmed the Melosh-transformed SU(6)w as a relevant symmetry classification. At higher energies, their most striking feature is their similarity to hadron-induced reactions, and they have provided fresh insight into the ideas developed to explain strong-interaction physics. New dimensions are added by taking the photon off mass shell, both in the spacelike region, where the development of high-energy electron and muon beams has led to the discovery and study of scaling and the intro duction of "partons," and even more dramatically in the timelike region, where the development of high-energy electron-positron storage rings has led to the exciting discoveries of the last four years. In view of the immense interest stimulated by these developments, an extensive review of our present state of knowledge is both timely and useful. Because of the very wide range of the subject, a cooperative venture presents itself as the most suitable format and is the one we have adopted here. The emphasis throughout is primarily, but not entirely, on phenomenology, concentrating on describing the main features of the experimental data and on the theoretical ideas used directly in their inter pretation.

This book was released on 2007-03-09 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This invaluable book is based on lecture notes developed for a one-semester graduate course entitled “Interaction of Radiation with Matter”, taught in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The main objective of the course is to teach enough quantum and classical radiation theory to allow students in engineering and the applied sciences to understand and have access to the vast literature on applications of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in materials research.Besides presenting the fundamental physics of radiation interactions, the book devotes individual chapters to some of the important modern-day experimental tools, such as nuclear magnetic resonance, photon correlation spectroscopy, and the various types of neutron, x-ray, and light-scattering techniques. End-of-chapter problems have been added for the new edition, making the book more appropriate as a course textbook.
