Book Synopsis Child Influences on Marital and Family Interaction by : Richard M Lerner
Download or read book Child Influences on Marital and Family Interaction written by Richard M Lerner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Child Influences on Marital and Family Interaction: A Life-Span Perspective book grew out of a conference sponsored by the Division of Individual and Family Studies in the College of Human Development at the Pennsylvania State University in April, 1977. The chapters for this volume are revised versions of the papers originally presented at the conference. The book explores the conceptual, methodological, and empirical issues in the study of the child and his or her family. It details how the age-normative and atypical development of the child contributes to the parents' marital quality and to the entire family's interaction patterns across the life-span of both the child and parents. Consequently, the child is seen as capable of contributing to marriage and family relationships not only when he or she is in utero, a neonate, or an infant, but also when the child reaches middle and late childhood, adolescence, and the adulthood and aged years as well.

Book Synopsis Sex Goes to School by : Susan K. Freeman
Download or read book Sex Goes to School written by Susan K. Freeman and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When seeking approaches for sex education, few look to the past for guidance. But Susan K. Freeman's investigation of the classrooms of the 1940s and 1950s offers numerous insights into the potential for sex education to address adolescent challenges, particularly for girls. From rural Toms River, New Jersey, to urban San Diego and many places in between, the use of discussion-based classes fostered an environment that focused less on strictly biological matters of human reproduction and more on the social dimensions of the gendered and sexual worlds that the students inhabited. Although the classes reinforced normative heterosexual gender roles that could prove repressive, the discussion-based approach also emphasized a potentially liberating sense of personal choice and responsibility in young women's relationship decisions. In addition to the biological and psychological underpinnings of normative sexuality, teachers presented girls' sex lives and gendered behavior as critical to the success of American families and, by extension, the entire way of life of American democracy. The approaches of teachers and students were sometimes predictable and other times surprising, yet almost wholly without controversy in the two decades before the so-called Sexual Revolution of the 1960s. Sex Goes to School illuminates the tensions between and among adults and youth attempting to make sense of sex in a society that was then, as much as today, both sex-phobic and sex-saturated.
Book Synopsis Building a Firm Foundation by : Rev. Richard W. Gilbert
Download or read book Building a Firm Foundation written by Rev. Richard W. Gilbert and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-08-26 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The family within and outside the church is under attack. Our culture seeks to revise and redesign what a family looks like. For those choosing to marry, their choice does not guarantee continued longevity and success. For both secular society and the church, the divorce rate continues to remain in excess of fifty percent. While couples think that they love one another and believing that will be sufficient for a life-time, the reality is there is much they need to know in order to build a solid foundation for a lifelong marriage. This book present not only the biblical roles in marriage but also many of the core issues and situations that arise in day-to-day marital living. In these pages the couple is encouraged and helped to talk together about comfortable topics, uncomfortable topics, and topics they didn’t know they should be discussing. Understanding love, communication, anger, conflict resolution, and money management are key subjects of discussion in these pages.
