Book Synopsis Law of Perpetual Motion by : IntroBooks Team

Book excerpt: The Law of Perpetual Motion can be defined as a mechanism that never stops moving. If it starts rolling once and is left running, it would run indefinitely. People may not be aware of the Big Freeze. It is the theoretical end of everything. It is the stage at which the universe has stretched to having no leverage of thermodynamic energy. In other words, it is the threshold at which the entire universe will cease to maintain motion. The entire universe will become absolute zero. It is the coldest temperature, where everything is at a standstill. In short, the Big Freeze is a period of infinite, everlasting, and absolutely quiet darkness. It will not repeat for another 100 trillion years or more. It has to be kept in mind that an actual perpetual motion machine would be capable of running for at least that long. Many plans for perpetual motion machines may be seen online that claim to be functional. Looking at those designs, it is not illogical to believe that some of them could (if properly designed) continue running. If someone wants to succeed, the impact would be massive. There is an infinite supply of energy. However, it would be more than that by way of unrestricted energy. Perpetual motion devices governed by the Law of Perpetual Motion are, unfortunately, unattainable related to the inherent physics of the universe.

Book excerpt: Prior to 20th century physics it was believed an ethereal medium pervaded all space. It was believed the ether is necessary to explain light as waves propagating through a medium. Physicists failed to confirm the ether really exists. Only indirect inference to wave properties can be made with regard to its possible existence. Otherwise it is invisible to our world. Ethereal physics has been abandoned. It has been replaced with a methodology whereby only what can be observed is considered real. All observable effects are mathematically related in the form of a functional theory. Much of theory is postulated, not explained. There is, for instance, no attempt to explain the probability nature of quantum mechanics. Only the results are considered pertinent to scientific investigation. However, with the historical foundation from which modern theory evolves, physicists are becoming confused. They believe, for instance, general relativity predicts black holes. There are no black holes. They are myths created from inconsistent interpretation of theory. This book goes beyond physics to explain the physics of gravity, the atomic structure and cosmology. It provides a historical perspective for understanding physics in a more consistent manner.

Book Synopsis Engineering Thermodynamics: A Computer Approach (SI Units Version) by : R. K. Rajput
Download or read book Engineering Thermodynamics: A Computer Approach (SI Units Version) written by R. K. Rajput and published by Jones & Bartlett Publishers. This book was released on 2009-03-12 with total page 967 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intended as a textbook for “applied” or engineering thermodynamics, or as a reference for practicing engineers, the book uses extensive in-text, solved examples and computer simulations to cover the basic properties of thermodynamics. Pure substances, the first and second laws, gases, psychrometrics, the vapor, gas and refrigeration cycles, heat transfer, compressible flow, chemical reactions, fuels, and more are presented in detail and enhanced with practical applications. This version presents the material using SI Units and has ample material on SI conversion, steam tables, and a Mollier diagram. A CD-ROM, included with the print version of the text, includes a fully functional version of QuickField (widely used in industry), as well as numerous demonstrations and simulations with MATLAB, and other third party software.

Book Synopsis Foundations of Statistical Mechanics by : O. Penrose
Download or read book Foundations of Statistical Mechanics written by O. Penrose and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-09-21 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Series of Monographs in Natural Philosophy, Volume 22: Foundations of Statistical Mechanics: A Deductive Treatment presents the main approaches to the basic problems of statistical mechanics. This book examines the theory that provides explicit recognition to the limitations on one's powers of observation. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the main physical assumptions and their idealization in the form of postulates. This text then examines the consequences of these postulates that culminate in a derivation of the fundamental formula for calculating probabilities in terms of dynamic quantities. Other chapters provide a careful analysis of the significant notion of entropy, which shows the links between thermodynamics and statistical mechanics and also between communication theory and statistical mechanics. The final chapter deals with the thermodynamic concept of entropy. This book is intended to be suitable for students of theoretical physics. Probability theorists, statisticians, and philosophers will also find this book useful.
