Book Synopsis Choosing Chinese Universities by : Alice Y.C. Te
Download or read book Choosing Chinese Universities written by Alice Y.C. Te and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-10-07 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book unpacks the complex dynamics of Hong Kong students’ choice in pursuing undergraduate education at the universities of Mainland China. Drawing on an empirical study based on interviews with 51 students, this book investigates how macro political/economic factors, institutional influences, parental influence, and students’ personal motivations have shaped students’ eventual choice of university. Building on Perna’s integrated model of college choice and Lee’s push-pull mobility model, this book conceptualizes that students’ border crossing from Hong Kong to Mainland China for higher education is a trans-contextualized negotiated choice under the "One Country, Two Systems" principle. The findings reveal that during the decision-making process, influencing factors have conditioned four archetypes of student choice: Pragmatists, Achievers, Averages, and Underachievers. The book closes by proposing an enhanced integrated model of college choice that encompasses both rational motives and sociological factors, and examines the theoretical significance and practical implications of the qualitative study. With its focus on student choice and experiences of studying in China, this book’s research and policy findings will interest researchers, university administrators, school principals, and teachers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is constant pressure on governments and policy makers to raise the standard of education, and to develop appropriate curriculum and pedagogies for students. It is no easy task. This book presents eight specific case studies of education reform implementation which capture how the design and implementation choices of policy makers are shaped by national and historical contexts. They offer real examples of the choices and constraints faced by policymakers and practitioners. The cases are a mix of nationally and locally mandated reforms with five examples from nations where the state initiated and guided reforms. The concluding synthesis chapter highlights commonalities and differences across the cases and disparate responses to shared concerns. Providing a breadth of real-world research, it will assist policy makers, practitioners and other stakeholders interested in system change.

Book Synopsis International Perspectives on Writing Curricula and Development by : Jill Jeffery
Download or read book International Perspectives on Writing Curricula and Development written by Jill Jeffery and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-05-27 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contributes to the innovation of writing education and research globally by providing crucial insights into how the structures and aims of literacy curricula vary internationally. It examines how nine education systems across five continents represent ‘good writing’ in curricula that shape students’ experiences learning to write in school. The book presents curricular analyses aimed at providing insight into how writing development can be better supported through innovative policy and research. The findings regarding international variation are presented under three broad dimensions: social and contextual factors that shape writing curricula; the discourses of writing reflected in curricula and official documents; and hallmarks of classroom practice, including the relationship with official discourse. Case study chapters present integrated inductive and deductive document analyses, findings of which are compared in a concluding, cross-case analysis chapter. Offering a detailed comparative analysis of writing research, International Perspectives on Writing Curricula and Development will be of great interest to academics, researchers and students in the fields of education, literacy and curriculum studies. It will also be relevant reading for policymakers and curriculum designers. Download or read book A Jinx Called Joe written by Joe Shek and published by . This book was released on 2023-05-23 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synopsis: A Jinx Called Joe is a semi-autobiography, based on Joe’s experience. ‘Jinx’ was the name that ‘the father’ assign to Joe, and the word has permanently been embedded in Joe’s painful memory. His life did not belong to him. Struggling his whole life since birth, Joe decided to survive independently. Lacking any support, Joe had to force himself to be brave and strong to overcome every uphill battle because he had no other choice. To escape from the abuse from ‘the father’, Joe had only two paths — committing suicide or risking everything to fight against ‘the father’. A Jinx Called Joe is an account of the struggle for the meaning of life and self-worth. With no strong literacy background, only sincere words and genuine feelings can touch the readers. Written by someone who was broken, the tale was born to seek to advocate empathy. Writing Style: This book possesses a unique writing style, inspired by A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo. A strong personality can be found in the first-person point of view. Some English sentences do not follow the grammar rules, with some Chinese writing elements.
