Hollenweger (born in Switzerland in 1927 and now retired) was formerly Professor of Mission at the University of Birmingham (UK). He is also one of the Editors of the Series Studies in the Intercultural History of Christianity. His wide and deep interest in both the Church and Theology also includes Ecumenics. He enjoys a worldwide reputation not only for encouraging intercultural theology but also for his contribution to the study of Pentecostalism and Charismatic Renewal. In this Hollenweger Festschrift, the reader will find many interesting biographical recollections. There are references to his case-studies (based also upon statistical materials) which describe the growth of Pentecostalism and Charismatic Renewal: together with his systematic reflections on the subject of 'interculturation' and encounter'. They certainly illustrate the emergence of Pentecostalism and Charismatic Renewal in all its many facets. No less than twenty-six specialists contributed to this Festschrift. They come from America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Many of them obtained their doctorates under the supervision of Prof. Hollenweger. His colleagues have also contributed. Their papers range over the same wide field which Hollenweger himself has pioneered; and they survey that vast field from many different vantage points: thus reflecting the ideals of their own colleague and mentor whose life-work is justly honoured by their own labours.
