Face à cette dualité, les marques ont intégré des actifs favorisant cette synthèse afin de répondre aux attentes des consommateurs. Les stratégies adoptées sont dans un premier temps d'apporter des actifs qui activent le récepteur de la vitamine D, améliorant ainsi la fonction barrière de la peau. Une des alternatives proposées est d'apporter un précurseur qui sera ensuite métabolisé en vitamine D sous l'action des UV. Certaines marques ont fait le choix d'ajouter directement de la vitamine D mais cela reste limité au marché américain, canadien et australien puisque la réglementation européenne l'interdit. Enfin les dernières solutions, moins répandues, consistent à intégrer des ingrédients riches en vitamine D directement dans la formule, ou encore d'adopter des technologies de filtration sélective des rayonnements UV. De ce fait, les consommateurs ont un large choix de produits solaires favorisant la synthèse de la vitamine D et n'auront plus à choisir entre se protéger du soleil ou atteindre une quantité suffisante de vitamine D. Pour les réfractaires à cette nouvelle offre solaire, la dernière possibilité reste encore l'assimilation de vitamine D par l'alimentation ou la supplémentation.

Les filtres sont utilisés en association ce qui permet d’élargir leur spectre d’action et de stabiliser les molécules les rendant plus tolérables. Tous ces principes actifs se sont révélés efficaces contre la plupart des méfaits du soleil. Cependant, leur efficacité sur la prévention de la survenue de mélanomes est actuellement remise en cause. Il est donc nécessaire d’adapter une photo protection à chacun en fonction de son phototype et de conseiller des expositions au soleil raisonnables.

Cependant, malgré l'enrichissement des connaissances sur la nocivité du soleil pour la peau et la prévention qui en découle, le nombre de mélanomes est en constante augmentation. C'est le neuvième cancer le plus meurtrier en France. C'est pourquoi, il est important pour le pharmacien d'officine de bien connaître les risques de l'exposition solaire, ainsi que les maladies qui en découlent et leurs traitements, pour sensibiliser la population. Ce travail est une revue de la littérature à propos d'une part, des effets du soleil sur la peau afin de comprendre comment les rayons ultraviolets peuvent interagir avec les cellules de l'organisme, les altérer et provoquer la carcinogenèse et à propos d'autre part, de la physiopathologie de ces cancers et des traitements existants ou prometteurs pour l'avenir. L'étude de la composition de plusieurs produits solaires présents en pharmacie d'officine a permis de mettre en évidence les filtres les plus utilisés et l'importance de la formulation galénique dans l'efficacité de la photoprotection. Les controverses quant à certains filtres ou certaines formulations ou encore l'impact sur l'environnement sont autant de freins à la photoprotection de la population. Ainsi, la prévention et les conseils du pharmacien d'officine doivent être complets, en écho à la demande grandissante de produits de protection solaire et aux questionnements des consommateurs sur la composition et la sécurité des produits qu'ils utilisent

Le rôle du pharmacien est dès lors primordial : en tant que professionnel de santé, il est à même de prodiguer les conseils adaptés relatifs à une bonne protection solaire.
