Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the midst of accelerating change, our world seems to be in crisis. It is widely accepted that our planet is rapidly becoming smaller and more interconnected, while the policies, ideas, and institutions of the past are weakening in the face of new challenges. In One World, One People, author Gregory C. Dahl offers a penetrating look at the questions surrounding globalization not only in economics but in all aspects of human life. Surveying the past centurys developments in technology, ideology, and politics, he shows how the current world situation arose from forces that are gradually contracting the planet and its societies. Drawing on his many years of experience working for the International Monetary Fund and from insights provided by the Bah Faith, Dahl offers evidence of the inevitable path toward world unity. His critical examination of history, political influences, and implications of global trends suggests a promising future for all of humankind.
Download or read book Factfulness written by Hans Rosling and published by Flatiron Books. This book was released on 2018-04-03 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER “One of the most important books I’ve ever read—an indispensable guide to thinking clearly about the world.” – Bill Gates “Hans Rosling tells the story of ‘the secret silent miracle of human progress’ as only he can. But Factfulness does much more than that. It also explains why progress is so often secret and silent and teaches readers how to see it clearly.” —Melinda Gates "Factfulness by Hans Rosling, an outstanding international public health expert, is a hopeful book about the potential for human progress when we work off facts rather than our inherent biases." - Former U.S. President Barack Obama Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of only carrying opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends—what percentage of the world’s population live in poverty; why the world’s population is increasing; how many girls finish school—we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess teachers, journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers. In Factfulness, Professor of International Health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two long-time collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens. They reveal the ten instincts that distort our perspective—from our tendency to divide the world into two camps (usually some version of us and them) to the way we consume media (where fear rules) to how we perceive progress (believing that most things are getting worse). Our problem is that we don’t know what we don’t know, and even our guesses are informed by unconscious and predictable biases. It turns out that the world, for all its imperfections, is in a much better state than we might think. That doesn’t mean there aren’t real concerns. But when we worry about everything all the time instead of embracing a worldview based on facts, we can lose our ability to focus on the things that threaten us most. Inspiring and revelatory, filled with lively anecdotes and moving stories, Factfulness is an urgent and essential book that will change the way you see the world and empower you to respond to the crises and opportunities of the future. --- “This book is my last battle in my life-long mission to fight devastating ignorance...Previously I armed myself with huge data sets, eye-opening software, an energetic learning style and a Swedish bayonet for sword-swallowing. It wasn’t enough. But I hope this book will be.” Hans Rosling, February 2017.

Book Synopsis Pathways for Peace by : United Nations;World Bank
Download or read book Pathways for Peace written by United Nations;World Bank and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2018-04-13 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Violent conflicts today are complex and increasingly protracted, involving more nonstate groups and regional and international actors. It is estimated that by 2030—the horizon set by the international community for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals—more than half of the world’s poor will be living in countries affected by high levels of violence. Information and communication technology, population movements, and climate change are also creating shared risks that must be managed at both national and international levels. Pathways for Peace is a joint United Nations†“World Bank Group study that originates from the conviction that the international community’s attention must urgently be refocused on prevention. A scaled-up system for preventive action would save between US$5 billion and US$70 billion per year, which could be reinvested in reducing poverty and improving the well-being of populations. The study aims to improve the way in which domestic development processes interact with security, diplomacy, mediation, and other efforts to prevent conflicts from becoming violent. It stresses the importance of grievances related to exclusion—from access to power, natural resources, security and justice, for example—that are at the root of many violent conflicts today. Based on a review of cases in which prevention has been successful, the study makes recommendations for countries facing emerging risks of violent conflict as well as for the international community. Development policies and programs must be a core part of preventive efforts; when risks are high or building up, inclusive solutions through dialogue, adapted macroeconomic policies, institutional reform, and redistributive policies are required. Inclusion is key, and preventive action needs to adopt a more people-centered approach that includes mainstreaming citizen engagement. Enhancing the participation of women and youth in decision making is fundamental to sustaining peace, as well as long-term policies to address the aspirations of women and young people.
Book Synopsis The Great Awakening by : William D. Holmes
Download or read book The Great Awakening written by William D. Holmes and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-11-15 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, William D. Holmes talks about how Christians has strayed away from the way God commanded for them to live in the Bible. As the generations change, so has the way people live change. What the Bible teaches regarding holiness should remain the same throughout each generation. Although what has happen is Satan has enlighten some people to try to modernize the teachings of Holiness and the things that the bible say Christians should not do. They will say it is nothing wrong with it. By so doing, they will mislead the people back into the world dressing and acting just like the heathens. It will be that there will be no difference in the church people and the world. The church will turn into a social club. It is the job of Satan to lead as many souls as he can into the fires of hell. It is time to clean house and return back to God, serving him in holiness and righteousness all the days of your life. I will talk about the false prophets and their impact on the church and the coming of the Antichrist and the mark of the beast. I will talk about the end-times with the four horses and two witnesses with their impact on the world--the coming of the Son of Man in his glory, God's wrath upon the earth. First and second resurrections with judgment at the great throne of the almighty and the millennium and a glimpse of heaven and hell. The final defeat of Satan and the demons with the new world order and much more will I go over in the power pack book. I am writing by leading and revelation of the Holy Ghosts. These events were given to me by God. We all should know no man knows the day or hour Jesus will return. Only God the Father knows. The immortal world is hidden from us on this side. But this book only gives you an idea picture of what is to come. May God speak to your heart as you read this book. It is time to live holy for Jesus and be ready for the soon coming king and rapture of the Church.
