Book Synopsis Wage differentials between the public and private sectors in India by : Elena E. Glinskaya
Download or read book Wage differentials between the public and private sectors in India written by Elena E. Glinskaya and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors use 1993-94 and 1999-2000 India Employment and Unemployment surveys to investigate wage differentials between the public and private sectors as well as workers' decisions to join a particular sector. To obtain robust estimates of the wage differential, they apply three econometric techniques each relying on a different set of assumptions about the process of job selection. All three methods show that differences in wages between public sector workers and workers in the formal-private and informal-casual sectors are positive and high. Estimates show that, on average, the public sector premium ranges between 62 percent and 102 percent over the private-formal sector, and between 164 percent and 259 percent over the informal-casual sector, depending on the choice of methodology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a response to the Government's request to consider whether pay for very senior managers in the NHS in England should be made more market-facing at local level. The review was complicated by the fact the NHS is currently undergoing reorganisation. The conclusions must therefore be subject to the caveat that better information is needed, Three recommendations however are put forward: that no additional locality pay measures be added to the new NHS very senior managers' pay framework; that the Department of Health collect and provide information on recruitment, retention and motivation of NHS very senior managers; and that all NHS very senior managers be assimilated into and paid according to the new pay framework, on the basis of job weight, once the current reforms have been fully implemented

This book was released on 2012-03-13 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the thirty-fourth report on senior salaries with the remit of providing independent advice to the Prime Minister, the Lord Chancellor, the Secretary of State for Defence and the Secretary of State for Health on the remuneration of holders of judicial office; senior civil servants; senior officers of the armed forces; very senior managers in the NHS; and other such public appointments. However it covers the second year of the Government's pay freeze for public sector workers paid over £21,000 a year. Therefore, no recommendations for the relevant remit groups could be made. The Review Body report concentrates accordingly on any evidence about recruitment, retention or motiviation, and sets out its views on changes it would like to see in the pay and performance management systems for the remit groups, systems which are nearly all currently under review.

Book Synopsis Public Sector Payrolls by : David A. Wise
Download or read book Public Sector Payrolls written by David A. Wise and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An estimated one out of five employees in this country works for some branch of government. Because policies concerning the compensation of these employees rest on assumptions about the economic dynamics of the public sector, the issue of public sector employment is of vital importance in the analysis of the national economy. In Public Sector Payrolls, leading economists explore the independent and interdependent functioning of the public and private sectors and their effect on the economy as a whole. The volume, developed from a 1984 National Bureau of Economic Research conference, focuses on various labor issues in military and other governmental employment. Several contributors discuss compensation in the armed forces and its relationship to that in the private sector, as well as the interaction between the military and the private sector in the employment of youth. This latter is of particular interest because studies of youth employment have generally ignored the important influence of military hiring practices on labor market conditions. In other contributions, the response of wages and employment in the public sector to economic conditions is analyzed, and a detailed study of government pension plans is presented. Also included is a theoretical and empirical analysis of comparable worth in the public sector from the viewpoint of analytical labor economics. The volume concludes with a look at public school teachers' salaries in the context of current debates over improving the quality of American education. A valuable resource to policymakers, Public Sector Payrolls will be an important addition to research in the field of labor economics.

Book Synopsis The Routledge Companion to Reward Management by : Stephen J. Perkins
Download or read book The Routledge Companion to Reward Management written by Stephen J. Perkins and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-11-14 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Companion to Reward Management provides a prestige reference work and a state-of-the-art compilation, mapping out contemporary developments and debates on rewarding people in employment, and how they relate to business, corporate governance and management. Reward management stands at the interdisciplinary interface between economics, industrial relations and HRM, industrial psychology and organisational sociology, and increasingly corporate governance incorporating debates around equity and fairness in and around the employment relationship and wider capital-labour relations. In recent years, trade union decline and widening differentials between those employed at the top of organisations have generated critical commentary in the popular media which can negatively impact on social cohesion. Theoretically underpinned but practically oriented, this Companion will synthesise these trends and controversies around issues while tracing conceptual and empirical provenance, currency and future prospects. It will be an invaluable resource for student and researchers in reward management, corporate governance, management and HRM seeking convenient access to an area which is highly complex and controversial in application.

Book Synopsis Market-facing Pay by : NHS Pay Review Body
Download or read book Market-facing Pay written by NHS Pay Review Body and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2012-12-05 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report considers how to make pay more market-facing in local areas for NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) staff and recommends market-facing pay to support recruitment and staff retention. The AfC system is perceived as fair and objective by all parties, supports stable industrial relations, and is viewed as compliant with equal pay principles. Analysis does not provide firm evidence for further investment in additional market -facing pay in the NHS at this time and further development of AfC is needed to meet the challenges and cost pressures in the NHS. AfC is considered the appropriate vehicle through which to develop market-facing pay as it already has positive features for it. The Review Body therefore specifically recommends a fundamental review of high cost area supplements, appropriate use of local recruitment and retention premia, and regular review of AfC, including its flexibilities, with any necessary negotiations brought to a conclusion at a reasonable pace
