Book Synopsis Transforming Pastoral Leadership by : Quentin P. Kinnison
Download or read book Transforming Pastoral Leadership written by Quentin P. Kinnison and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-05-20 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many congregations, change creates discomfort. Pastoral leaders are often expected to be experts who manage and control realities beyond their expertise, experience, and ability. That expectation, a product of modern approaches to leadership, views the pastor as responsible for maintaining the status quo. Transforming Pastoral Leadership responds to this context by challenging readers to rediscover key biblical themes around the shepherding metaphor as well as key theological themes steeped in our historical faith narratives. Readers are challenged to consider the origins of our dominant leadership practices and to reconsider how Christ's preeminence as the leader of his church requires us to reconstruct leadership practices that are faithful to his preeminence. To assist congregations, Transforming Pastoral Leadership suggests two processes that might help congregations discern God's missional promptings as they move forward into God's future and experience conflict as opportunities for transformation.
Book Synopsis The Pastoral Search Journey by : John Vonhof

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most churches have sought out a new pastor many times, yet search committees often feel as though they are inventing the process from scratch. In The Pastoral Search Journey, John Vonhof provides detailed guidance for search committees to ensure a good match between pastor and congregation. This is Vonhof's third book about the pastoral search -- but the first to discuss interim pastors, transitions between pastors, and the use of the Internet and digital media. Vonhof advises congregational leaders on establishing the search committee; ensuring the congregation is cared for during the pastoral vacancy; conducting the congregational self-study and creating an information packet; finding, communicating with, and interviewing candidates; determining selection criteria as well as evaluating and recommending candidates; managing call negotiations; and finally welcoming the congregation s new pastor. Book Synopsis Completing the Circle by : David R. McMahill
Download or read book Completing the Circle written by David R. McMahill and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On his second day as association minister for the United Church of Christ, David McMahill received three phone calls from lay leaders who were looking for resources on "how to evaluate our minister." He knew of several churches in which a poorly constructed process for evaluating the ministers had spun out of control, however, and had gradually come to believe it is probably better for a church not to attempt an evaluation process at all than to do one carelessly or to naively use a design intended for a secular organization. Based on the needs he saw, McMahill began to work with numerous congregations looking for ways to review both leaders and ministries and developed the feedback/reflection process he lays out in this book. Based on sound principles of effective communication, this simple system of asking for descriptive feedback about various aspects of a congregation's life together takes into account the specific setting and the unique relationship between minister and congregation.

Book Synopsis Social Work and Neoliberalism by : Edgar Marthinsen
Download or read book Social Work and Neoliberalism written by Edgar Marthinsen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-26 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social work educators and practitioners are grappling with many difficulties confronting the profession in the context of an increasingly neoliberal world. The contributors of this book examine how neoliberalism — and the modes with which it structures the world — has an impact on, and shapes, social work as a disciplinary ‘field’. Drawing on new empirical work, the chapters in this book highlight how neoliberalism is affecting social work practices ‘on the ground’. The book seeks to stimulate international debate on the totalizing effects of neoliberalism, and in so doing, also identify various ways through which it can be resisted both locally and globally. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the European Journal of Social Work.

Book excerpt: Summons: In the Case of Attorney General v. Church Trustees (How Trustees Actually Contribute to Church Crimes) This Book Contains: The essentials to church bylaws, The legal defi nition & function of church trustees, How to get lOO% participation of church members, The Job Description of the pastor, The legal way to dismiss a member, The 10 most common church lawsuits, and much, much more! Prior to the sex-abuse scandal of the Catholic Church in the U.S., a lawsuit against a church was almost unheard of. Now they are one of the fastest growing areas of civil and personal lawsuits. Although no church is immune to accusations, there are many reasonable and practical ways to reduce the possibilities. This book deals primarily with church bylaws, which are incredibly insuffi cient and provide no meaningful protection from disgruntled members or even injured visitors. With properly prepared bylaws, church trustees no longer need to cover-up crimes of the church, but can actually avoid most of them. This book tells how.
Book Synopsis Shaping Claims to Urban Land by : Fons van Overbeek
Download or read book Shaping Claims to Urban Land written by Fons van Overbeek and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-10-03 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of 'hybridity' is often still poorly theorized and problematically applied by peace and development scholars and researchers of resource governance. This book turns to a particular ethnographic reading of Michel Foucault's Governmentality and investigates its usefulness to study precisely those mechanisms, processes and practices that hybridity once promised to clarify. Claim-making to land and authority in a post-conflict environment is the empirical grist supporting this exploration of governmentality. Specifically in the periphery of Bukavu. This focus is relevant as urban land is increasingly becoming scarce in rapidly expanding cities of eastern Congo, primarily due to internal rural-to-urban migration as a result of regional insecurity. The governance of urban land is also important analytically as land governance and state authority in Africa are believed to be closely linked and co-evolve. An ethnographic reading of governmentality enables researchers to study hybridization without biasing analysis towards hierarchical dualities. Additionally, a better understanding of hybridization in the claim-making practices may contribute to improved government intervention and development assistance in Bukavu and elsewhere.
