Book Synopsis Laser Radar by : National Research Council
Download or read book Laser Radar written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2014-03-14 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's world, the range of technologies with the potential to threaten the security of U.S. military forces is extremely broad. These include developments in explosive materials, sensors, control systems, robotics, satellite systems, and computing power, to name just a few. Such technologies have not only enhanced the capabilities of U.S. military forces, but also offer enhanced offensive capabilities to potential adversaries - either directly through the development of more sophisticated weapons, or more indirectly through opportunities for interrupting the function of defensive U.S. military systems. Passive and active electro-optical (EO) sensing technologies are prime examples. Laser Radar considers the potential of active EO technologies to create surprise; i.e., systems that use a source of visible or infrared light to interrogate a target in combination with sensitive detectors and processors to analyze the returned light. The addition of an interrogating light source to the system adds rich new phenomenologies that enable new capabilities to be explored. This report evaluates the fundamental, physical limits to active EO sensor technologies with potential military utility; identifies key technologies that may help overcome the impediments within a 5-10 year timeframe; considers the pros and cons of implementing each existing or emerging technology; and evaluates the potential uses of active EO sensing technologies, including 3D mapping and multi-discriminate laser radar technologies.

Book Synopsis Aperture Antennas for Millimeter and Sub-Millimeter Wave Applications by : Artem Boriskin
Download or read book Aperture Antennas for Millimeter and Sub-Millimeter Wave Applications written by Artem Boriskin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the technology of millimetre waves and Terahertz (THz) antennas. It highlights the importance of moderate and high-gain aperture antennas as key devices for establishing point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radio links for far-field and near-field applications, such as high data-rate communications, intelligent transport, security imaging, exploration and surveillance systems. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the key antenna technologies developed for the mm wave and THz domains, including established ones – such as integrated lens antennas, advanced 2D and 3D horn antennas, transmit and reflect arrays, and Fabry-Perot antennas – as well as emerging metasurface antennas for near-field and far-field applications. It describes the pros and cons of each antenna technology in comparison with other available solutions, a discussion supplemented by practical examples illustrating the step-by-step implementation procedures for each antenna type. The measurement techniques available at these frequency ranges are also presented to close the loop of the antenna development cycle. In closing, the book outlines future trends in various antenna technologies, paving the way for further developments. Presenting content originating from the five-year ESF research networking program ‘Newfocus’ and co-authored by the most active and highly cited research groups in the domain of mm- and sub-mm-wave antenna technologies, the book offers a valuable guide for researchers and engineers in both industry and academia.

Download or read book Geosynchronous SAR: System and Signal Processing written by Teng Long and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-20 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book chiefly addresses the analysis and design of geosynchronous synthetic aperture radar (GEO SAR) systems, focusing on the algorithms, analysis, methods used to compensate for ionospheric influences, and validation experiments for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Further, it investigates special problems in the GEO SAR context, such as curved trajectories, the Earth’s rotation, the ‘non-stop-and-go’ model, high-order Doppler parameters, temporal-variant ionospheric errors etc. These studies can also be extended to SAR with very high resolution and long integration time. Given the breadth and depth of its coverage, scientists and engineers in SAR and advanced graduate students in related areas will greatly benefit from this book.
