Book excerpt: This is the third volume of the Hague Yearbook of International Law , which succeeds the Yearbook of the Association of Attenders & Alumni of the Hague Academy of International Law. The title Hague Yearbook of International Law reflects the close ties which have always existed between the A.A.A. & the City of The Hague with its international law institutions & indicates the Editors' intention to devote attention to developments taking place in those international law institutions, viz. the International Court of Justice, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal & the Hague Conference on Private International Law. This volume contains in-depth articles on these developments & summaries of (aspects of) decisions rendered by the International Court of Justice, the Permanent Court of Arbitration & the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal. In addition, the 1990 volume contains the papers of the Thirty-Third A.A.A. Congress held at Aix-en-Provence on 'Communications & International Law'.
Book Synopsis La Diplomatie Multilatérale by : Marcel André Boisard
Download or read book La Diplomatie Multilatérale written by Marcel André Boisard and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 1998 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first part of this book, distinguished diplomats and eminent academics have contributed papers on the concept of international organization, on international conference diplomacy and on negotiating strategies, while experts have provided practical advice on conference management and tips on getting ideas and positions heard and understood in this particular setting. A second part includes notices on the United Nations organizations headquartered in Geneva, with special emphasis on what may be called their institutional culture', and a third part, including an invaluable presentation by the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs, is devoted to the question of privileges and immunities. There are many studies, academic or otherwise, on the United Nations organizations but hardly any provide this kind of practical guidance for diplomats and national officials first confronted with the Geneva multilateral setting. The book is primarily intended for them, but is also of interest for those concerned with international relations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This firsthand account, never before published in English, details a secret World War II mission in 1944 called Operation Salamander, in which Tadeusz Chciuk (writing as Marek Celt) parachuted into German-occupied Poland with the enigmatic political adviser Dr. Jozef Retinger. The goal of the mission was to persuade the Polish underground forces and political leadership to accept that it was imperative to start negotiating with the Soviets right away, as they were now to be considered Poland's allies and had the full support of the British and Americans. The story culminates in Operation Wildhorn III, in which Chciuk and Retinger were picked up in Poland by a British plane that landed just a short distance from a significant detachment of German forces, and flew them to safety.
