Book Synopsis Introduction to Particle Technology by : Martin J. Rhodes
Download or read book Introduction to Particle Technology written by Martin J. Rhodes and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-25 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle technology is a term used to refer to the science and technology related to the handling and processing of particles and powders. The production of particulate materials, with controlled properties tailored to subsequent processing and applications, is of major interest to a wide range of industries, including chemical and process, food, pharmaceuticals, minerals and metals companies and the handling of particles in gas and liquid solutions is a key technological step in chemical engineering. This textbook provides an excellent introduction to particle technology with worked examples and exercises. Based on feedback from students and practitioners worldwide, it has been newly edited and contains new chapters on slurry transport, colloids and fine particles, size enlargement and the health effects of fine powders. Topics covered include: Characterization (Size Analysis) Processing (Granulation, Fluidization) Particle Formation (Granulation, Size Reduction) Storage and Transport (Hopper Design, Pneumatic Conveying, Standpipes, Slurry Flow) Separation (Filtration, Settling, Cyclones) Safety (Fire and Explosion Hazards, Health Hazards) Engineering the Properties of Particulate Systems (Colloids, Respirable Drugs, Slurry Rheology) This book is essential reading for undergraduate students of chemical engineering on particle technology courses. It is also valuable supplementary reading for students in other branches of engineering, applied chemistry, physics, pharmaceutics, mineral processing and metallurgy. Practitioners in industries in which powders are handled and processed may find it a useful starting point for gaining an understanding of the behavior of particles and powders. Review of the First Edition taken from High Temperatures - High pressures 1999 31 243 – 251 "..This is a modern textbook that presents clear-cut knowledge. It can be successfully used both for teaching particle technology at universities and for individual study of engineering problems in powder processing."
Book Synopsis Studies of Particle Size Distribution in Fluidized Beds by : H. M. Katz
Download or read book Studies of Particle Size Distribution in Fluidized Beds written by H. M. Katz and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A technique for the study of distribution of particle sizes in fluidized beds consisting of two particle sizes has been devised, and data have been obtained for a number of such systems. It has been shown that both static electricity in the bed and surface absorption of moisture affect the particle size distribution. Experimental data indicate that the effects of these variables can be eliminated by use of a conducting column of conducting particles and the use of dry air for fluidization. In addition, a qualitative relationship between minimum fluidizing velocity for mixed particle sizes and pressure drop across the bed has been demonstrated.
Book Synopsis Multiphase Flow and Fluidization by : Dimitri Gidaspow
Download or read book Multiphase Flow and Fluidization written by Dimitri Gidaspow and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Useful as a reference for engineers in industry and as an advanced level text for graduate engineering students, Multiphase Flow and Fluidization takes the reader beyond the theoretical to demonstrate how multiphase flow equations can be used to provide applied, practical, predictive solutions to industrial fluidization problems. Written to help advance progress in the emerging science of multiphase flow, this book begins with the development of the conservation laws and moves on through kinetic theory, clarifying many physical concepts (such as particulate viscosity and solids pressure) and introducing the new dependent variable--the volume fraction of the dispersed phase. Exercises at the end of each chapterare provided for further study and lead into applications not covered in the text itself. Treats fluidization as a branch of transport phenomena Demonstrates how to do transient, multidimensional simulation of multiphase processes The first book to apply kinetic theory to flow of particulates Is the only book to discuss numerical stability of multiphase equations and whether or not such equations are well-posed Explains the origin of bubbles and the concept of critical granular flow Presents clearly written exercises at the end of each chapter to facilitate understanding and further study

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluidization is a technique that enables solid particles to take on some of the properties of a fluid. Despite being very widely used within the food processing industry, understanding of this important technique is often limited. Applications of Fluidization to Food Processing sets out the established theory of fluidization and relates this to food processing applications, particularly in: • Drying • Freezing • Mixing • Granulation • Fermentation This important and thorough book, written by Peter Smith, who has many years’ experience teaching and researching in food processing, is an essential tool and reference for food scientists and technologists, and engineers working within the food industry. Libraries, and research and development groups within all universities and research establishments where food science, food studies, food technology, physics and engineering are studied and taught should have copies of this useful book.
Book Synopsis Fluidized-Bed Reactors: Processes and Operating Conditions by : John G. Yates
Download or read book Fluidized-Bed Reactors: Processes and Operating Conditions written by John G. Yates and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fluidized-bed reactor is the centerpiece of industrial fluidization processes. This book focuses on the design and operation of fluidized beds in many different industrial processes, emphasizing the rationale for choosing fluidized beds for each particular process. The book starts with a brief history of fluidization from its inception in the 1940’s. The authors present both the fluid dynamics of gas-solid fluidized beds and the extensive experimental studies of operating systems and they set them in the context of operating processes that use fluid-bed reactors. Chemical engineering students and postdocs as well as practicing engineers will find great interest in this book.
