This book was released on 2008 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phosphorus ligands are well recognized for stabilizing metal complexes in a variety of oxidation states and coordination geometries. Compounds with pyridyl containing phosphines have been investigated with carbinol groups in the past; this work studies the pyridyl amines. The focus of this research is to explore the different binding properties as the position of the nitrogen changes on the ligand, as well as changing the silver(I) salts binding to the ligand such as the BF4-, OTf- and the tfa- anions. The synthesis and characterization of two new ligands that are from the same family have been looked at, and the synthesis of novel silver(I) complexes involving these ligands have been explored. All of the compounds produced have been characterized by X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, fluorescence, and elemental analyses.

This book was released on 2007 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Late transition metal complexes are traditionally employed as catalysts for a variety of organic transformations. The hydrosilylation reaction represents the formal addition of a Si-H bond to an unsaturated organic substrate, and is one such transformation that has received much attention in the scientific literature. The recent development of a series of P,N- and P-substituted indene ligands by the Stradiotto group prompted a study of group 10 and 11 complexes derived from these complexes. Synthesis and structural characterization of Pd(II), Pt(II), Au(III) and Au(I) species is reported, followed by stability and reactivity studies for these complexes. Selected complexes, as well as several M(I)/phosphine (M = Ag, Au) mixtures were evaluated as catalysts for the hydrosilylation reaction. Comparison of a neutral Pt(II) complex and a closely related neutral, charge-separated Au(III) zwitterion reveals significant differences in stability and reactivity, as well as in catalytic competence for the hydrosilylation of alkenes. Key Pt(II) complexes also display interesting reactivity that points to the potential for related species to accomplish intermolecular C-H bond activation. The Ag(I) and Au(I) catalyst systems described represent the first examples of Ag-mediated and room temperature Au-mediated hydrosilylation reactions, and as such, represent a significant contribution to scientific development. Future directions and proposed modifications to substituted indene ligands are discussed.

Book Synopsis The Chemistry of Organic Derivatives of Gold and Silver by : Saul Patai
Download or read book The Chemistry of Organic Derivatives of Gold and Silver written by Saul Patai and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 1999-10-18 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 100th volume in this highly successful and renowned Patai andRappoport series 'The Chemistry of Functional Groups' is fittinglydevoted to the precious metals, gold and silver. Gold is a soft metal occurring naturally as particles in quartz oras nuggets. Gold was initially used extensively in coinage andjewellery and has recently found applications in biochemistry, medicine and material science. Gold readily forms organometalliccompounds (R-Au-L with L = sulphide, phosphine and isocyanide),oxides and halides. Silver is a ductile metal which was used incoinage and for mirrors. It is now used for jewellery, electricalconductors, dental and surgical components. Silver forms stablesilver halides for use in Photography and i.r. spectroscopy as asupport material. Other silver compounds are also used incatalysis. This volume contains 16 chapters dealing with calculations onorganogold compounds, physical and spectroscopic properties (NMR,ESR, PES, Mossbauer spectra), thermochemical and analyticalproperties, the synthesis and uses of the title compounds and theirreactions such as rearrangements, pyrolysis and photochemicalreactions. The medicinal use of organogold compounds and theincreased use of gold-thiol monolayers are also summarized. Each of the chapters has been prepared by leading scientists inthis field making this volume invaluable for researchers inacademia and industry working with gold and silver, inbiochemistry, pharmaceutical and materials chemistry. Organic compunds containg Nitrogen are of outstanding importnce inbiochemistry and in environmental systems. This volume gives asound introduction into physical chemistry of amino, nitriso, nitroand related functional groups. This volume is now available in electronic format from BooksOnline.
Book Synopsis Synthesis and Characterization of Luminescent Gold(III) Complexes by : Amanda N. Sulicz
Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Luminescent Gold(III) Complexes written by Amanda N. Sulicz and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemistry of cyclometalated gold(III) has been relatively slow to emerge, but recent advances in catalyst and material design have driven a renewed interest. Reported here are synthetic, structural, and optical studies of cyclometalated gold(III) aryl complexes. These new complexes show ligand-centered luminescence that is perturbed by the heavy-atom effect of gold. Traditionally, metal-carbon bond formation relied on organometallic complexes of electropositive elements, including lithium and magnesium. The easily reducible nature of gold(III) often interferes with these conventional reagents, thus resulting in the use of toxic metals like mercury or thallium. Reported here is the use of palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling for the attachment of aryl ligands to cyclometalated gold(III) chloride complexes. The resulting di- and mono-arylated species were luminescent. Several complexes have been crystallographically characterized. Luminescent derivatives of a previously published gold(III) chloro precursor, initially reported for catalytic purposes, were prepared through boron transmetalation reactions. Complexes bearing both aryl and cyanide ligands were synthesized. These luminescent materials are diamagnetic and were be characterized by multinuclear NMR, absorption and emission spectroscopies (including time-resolved emission), and by X-ray diffraction crystallography. The synthesized gold(I) complexes were designed to display reverse saturable absorption and be a two photon acceptor. The BTF (BTF = 2-(9,9’-diethyl-9H-fluoren-2-yl)-benzothiazole) ligand was chosen as it has been previously demonstrated to have favorable photophysical effects on platinum(II) and ruthenium(II) complexes for applications in photodynamic therapy and optical power limiting (OPL). Gold(I) complexes with the BTF ligand are sought for potential OPL applications. Synthesized complexes are luminescent and were characterized by multinuclear NMR, absorption and emission spectroscopies, photoluminescent quantum yields, time-resolved emission. Two complexes were crystallographically characterized.
