Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To reflect on factors influencing the quality of schooling, this study examined parents' social participation in education in various countries of the European Union. The premise was that, in practice, parent participation in education systems makes possible both consistency of education and the cultural enrichment that children need. The study first provides a comparative overview that contributes to understanding of both the diversity of the national situations and the convergences that are found in Europe on this subject. It also provides extensive details on the initiatives and measures taken to involve parents in compulsory education matters both at the national level and at the level of the individual school; the patterns of representation and the powers that are given to parents in the various participatory bodies are presented country by country, encompassing 18 countries in all. (Contains extensive tables, maps, and charts.) (BT)

Download or read book Administration and Evaluation Structures for Primary and Secondary Schools in the Twelve Member States of the European Community written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comparative analysis deals with the administration and evaluation structures for primary and secondary schools in the member states of the European Community. It addresses four major issues: (1) how to hand over large amounts of autonomy to schools without upsetting the unity of the national education system; (2) what role parents and others in the education community should have in managing schools and how to reconcile their intervention with the professional specifications of the teachers' work; (3) what administrative structures and management models will guarantee that schools are better run; and (4) how can external evaluation be reconciled with internal evaluation as the practice of self-analysis of the school. This comparative analysis represents a cross-section of situations and phenomena in the 12 European Community countries. The document is divided into three main parts. The first outlines the context. The second part, concerning the school administration, details such areas as structural characteristics, the school council, and councils for educational and pedagogic coordination and guidance. The third part comparatively analyzes school evaluation strategies of the countries in the Community. Conclusions are given. (Contains 30 references.) (RR)

Book Synopsis Children and the European Union by : Helen Stalford
Download or read book Children and the European Union written by Helen Stalford and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines in detail the status of children in the EU. Drawing on a range of disciplinary perspectives, including the sociology of childhood and human rights discourse, it offers a critical analysis of the legal and policy framework underpinning EU children's rights across a range of areas, including family law, education, immigration and child protection. Traditionally children's rights at this level have been articulated primarily in the context of the free movement of persons provisions, inevitably restricting entitlement to migrant children of EU nationality. In the past decade, however, innovative interpretations of EU law by the Court of Justice, coupled with important constitutional developments, have prompted the development of a much more robust children's rights agenda. This culminated in the incorporation of a more explicit reference to children's rights in the Lisbon Treaty, followed by the Commission's launch, in February 2011, of a dedicated EU 'Agenda' to promote and safeguard the rights of the child. The analysis presented in this book therefore comes at a pivotal point in the history of EU children's rights, providing a detailed and critical overview of a range of substantive areas, and making an important contribution to international children's rights studies.
