The patient’s family members face the stigma, cope with their situation, and have the courage to care for their family member who is mentally ill. A vast number of literatures has focused on the stigma experienced by the psychiatric patients, and very few dwell on exploring parents caring experiences on mental instability, hence, this study. Methods: A descriptive phenomenological design was utilized to highlight the lived experiences of parents involving a father and seven mothers caring for their children with schizophrenia currently admitted in a psychiatric institution in Metro Manila. Semi-structured interview guide was used to capture their experiences and data analysis was done following Collaizzi method. Findings: Four emerging themes surfaced in the study that characterized the lived experiences of parents caring for a child with Schizophrenia, namely; Flickering Light, Echoing Hope, Embracing Normalcy and Loving Like No Other. Conclusion: The study paved the way in understanding the individual experiences of two of the most important figures in the family, the mother and the father. It illumined the lived experiences of seven mothers and a father of schizophrenic patients in a psychiatric hospital in Metro Manila. It revealed the facets of parenting as a description of the phenomenon of the caring experiences of parents with a schizophrenic child. Recommendation: This study recommends that a quantitative study be conducted in support of the qualitative outcome to solidify the findings which can be utilized as basis for coming up with interventional studies and phenomenography to highlight the similarities and differences in the caring behaviors of a father and a mother to a child with schizophrenia.
