Book Synopsis Parallel Processing for Scientific Computing by : Michael A. Heroux
Download or read book Parallel Processing for Scientific Computing written by Michael A. Heroux and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel processing has been an enabling technology in scientific computing for more than 20 years. This book is the first in-depth discussion of parallel computing in 10 years; it reflects the mix of topics that mathematicians, computer scientists, and computational scientists focus on to make parallel processing effective for scientific problems. Presently, the impact of parallel processing on scientific computing varies greatly across disciplines, but it plays a vital role in most problem domains and is absolutely essential in many of them. Parallel Processing for Scientific Computing is divided into four parts: The first concerns performance modeling, analysis, and optimization; the second focuses on parallel algorithms and software for an array of problems common to many modeling and simulation applications; the third emphasizes tools and environments that can ease and enhance the process of application development; and the fourth provides a sampling of applications that require parallel computing for scaling to solve larger and realistic models that can advance science and engineering.

Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Data Analysis and Processing held in Cefalu' (Palermo, ITALY) on September 23-25 1987. The aim of this Conference, now at its fourth edition, was to give a general view of the actual research in the area of methods and systems for achieving artificial vision as well as to have an up-dated information of the current activity in Europe. A number of invited speakers presented overviews of statistical classification problems and methods, non conventional archi tectures, mathematical morphology, robotic vision, analysis of range images in vision systems, pattern matching algorithms and astronomical data processing. Finally a survey of the discussion on the contribution of AI to Image Analysis is given. The papers presented at the Conference have been subdivided in four sections: knowledge based approaches, basic pattern recognition tools, multi features system based solutions, image analysis-applications. We must thank the IBM-Italia and the Digital Equipment Corpo ration for sponsoring this Conference. We feel that the days spent at Cefalu' were an important step toward the mutual exchange of scientific information within the image processing community. v. Cantoni Pavia University V. Book Synopsis Computer Vision: Specialized Processors for Real-Time Image Analysis by : Eduard Montseny
Download or read book Computer Vision: Specialized Processors for Real-Time Image Analysis written by Eduard Montseny and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994-08-23 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer vision falls short of human vision in two respects: execution time and intelligent interpretation. This book addresses the question of execution time. It is based on a workshop on specialized processors for real-time image analysis, held as part of the activities of an ESPRIT Basic Research Action, the Working Group on Vision. The aim of the book is to examine the state of the art in vision-oriented computers. Two approaches are distinguished: multiprocessor systems and fine-grain massively parallel computers. The development of fine-grain machines has become more important over the last decade, but one of the main conclusions of the workshop is that this does not imply the replacement of multiprocessor machines. The book is divided into four parts. Part 1 introduces different architectures for vision: associative and pyramid processors as examples of fine-grain machines and a workstation with bus-oriented network topology as an example of a multiprocessor system. Parts 2 and 3 deal with the design and development of dedicated and specialized architectures. Part 4 is mainly devoted to applications, including road segmentation, mobile robot guidance and navigation, reconstruction and identification of 3D objects, and motion estimation.
Book Synopsis Picture Interpretation by : Sandy Dance
Download or read book Picture Interpretation written by Sandy Dance and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional methods for image scene interpretation and understanding are based mainly on such single-threaded procedural paradigms as hypothesize-and-test or syntactic parsing. As a result, these systems are unable to carry out tasks that require concurrent hypothesis testing. This book explores a method for symbolically interpreting images based upon a parallel implementation of a network-of-frames suggested, for example, by Minsky (1975), to describe intelligent processing. The system has been implemented in an object-oriented environment in the logic programming language Parlog++ and includes the propagation of uncertainty through each frame using Baldwin's (1986) formulation. The system is tested with several scenarios of increasing complexity, culminating with legal interpretation of traffic intersection images.

This will improve productivity and allow advanced customer services. Therefore, many industrial companies and academic research laboratories have recently been attracted to this field, which involves several aspects, like image acquisition and preprocessing, layout analysis, preprinted data identification and recognition, user-entered data extraction, recognition of handwritten characters and words, and signature verification. The contributions collected in this book present the state of the art in the field of complete systems for bankcheck recognition, and explore the most promising trends in key aspects of this research field.
Book Synopsis Inverse Problems, Image Analysis, and Medical Imaging by : M. Zuhair Nashed
Download or read book Inverse Problems, Image Analysis, and Medical Imaging written by M. Zuhair Nashed and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of the Special Session, Interaction of Inverse Problems and Image Analysis, held at the January 2001 meeting of the AMS in New Orleans, LA. The common thread among inverse problems, signal analysis, and image analysis is a canonical problem: recovering an object (function, signal, picture) from partial or indirect information about the object. Both inverse problems and imaging science have emerged in recent years as interdisciplinary research fields with profound applications in many areas of science, engineering, technology, and medicine. Research in inverse problems and image processing shows rich interaction with several areas of mathematics and strong links to signal processing, variational problems, applied harmonic analysis, and computational mathematics. This volume contains carefully referred and edited original research papers and high-level survey papers that provide overview and perspective on the interaction of inverse problems, image analysis, and medical imaging. The book is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in signal and image processing and medical imaging.

Book Synopsis Image Processing and Analysis by : Tony F. Chan
Download or read book Image Processing and Analysis written by Tony F. Chan and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2005-09-01 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops the mathematical foundation of modern image processing and low-level computer vision, bridging contemporary mathematics with state-of-the-art methodologies in modern image processing, whilst organizing contemporary literature into a coherent and logical structure. The authors have integrated the diversity of modern image processing approaches by revealing the few common threads that connect them to Fourier and spectral analysis, the machinery that image processing has been traditionally built on. The text is systematic and well organized: the geometric, functional, and atomic structures of images are investigated, before moving to a rigorous development and analysis of several image processors. The book is comprehensive and integrative, covering the four most powerful classes of mathematical tools in contemporary image analysis and processing while exploring their intrinsic connections and integration. The material is balanced in theory and computation, following a solid theoretical analysis of model building and performance with computational implementation and numerical examples.
